Description

Can reiki be scientific?

For a practice that is so immersed in the esoteric nature of energy healing, this is a challenging question. Reiki Science Basics attempts to answer this while being mindful of the importance and sacredness this practice represents to many.

As a reiki master of more than a decade and healthcare professional, I am intimately familiar with this conflicting feeling of science versus spirituality. However, I usually find the answers are somewhere along the middle path.

Throughout this course, we will embrace the seemingly oppositional nature of these two perspectives and dig deeper to find where their translations intersect.

  • Could energy healing be referring to nervous system regulation?

  • Could hands-on reiki trigger a biochemical response?

  • Does reiki do more than touch alone?

These are just some of the questions we will be investigating throughout the 7 sections of this course.

Consideration of reiki from a scientific perspective is important as it provides the opportunity to credibly practice in a western medical setting. In an ideal world, the translations would not be necessary, but, as it stands, the western medical model speaks in science.

Just as meditation and time in nature have become prescriptive for their known complementary benefits, reiki too could be seen as a legitimate form of care.

Who this course is for:

  • Reiki-trained healthcare workers interested in using evidence-based practice (EBP) for reiki in medical settings
  • Reiki practitioners interested in learning science-based language for use in medical settings
  • Prospective reiki researchers wanting to improve clinical trials with more credible data collection
