Lesson Two of Reconnecting With Your Musical Voice will guide you in writing your daily mantra or affirmation. Grab a journal or a piece of paper and a pen for this lesson. I have included a downloadable PDF below. This lesson will include a short vocal warm up and then we will sing our mantra/ affirmations. I show you several simple techniques to create your own beautiful melodies. Remember this is just for ourselves so be kind and gentle to yourself.
Lesson 3 will begin with a relaxing vocal warm up. We will choose an affirmation/ mantra for today’s lesson. We will explore melody and the possibilities there. We can expand the melody by using simple stepwise movement up or down. We will also use leaps by skipping notes. We will explore rhythm and how it can change the melodic feel of a melody. I will show you examples and then there will be opportunities for you to sing using these techniques over a drone (held note).
Arranging the notes in relation to the drone note changes the mood of your melody. It can make the melody sad, happy, or magical. We can use this to express the words that we are singing. Sad is called a minor key and a happy sounding group of notes in sequence is called a major key. We will explore how this in this lesson. We will do a warmup and then we will explore the sad and happy moods in your melodic exploration using the drones and your chosen mantra/ affirmation. Then we will use some simple chordal passages using the auto harp and a drone. Remember it is time for you to explore. It's not about being right or wrong. As Miles Davis said "do not fear mistakes. There are none." Yes!! I love this quote. Enjoy yourself.
