Explore my journey with rational emotional behavioral therapy, from childhood emotional wounds to self-therapy, and how REBT fosters personal growth and transformation for helping others.
REBT, developed by Albert Ellis, shows how changing irrational beliefs—tremendous thinking, low frustration tolerance, and condemnation—transforms thoughts, emotions, and behavior.
Discover how Albert Ellis founded rational emotive therapy in 1957, pioneering cognitive behavioral psychotherapy with an active directive approach that identifies and changes dysfunctional beliefs to foster emotional well-being.
Explore the abc model of rebt by identifying activating events, beliefs, and consequences, then dispute irrational thoughts to transform emotions and behaviors through self-therapy.
Identify activating events as neutral circumstances that trigger emotions only through personal interpretations, and learn to describe events factually in the first column before analyzing your readings.
Explores beliefs as the cognitive processes that shape interpretation, emotions, and behavior; contrasts irrational vs rational thoughts per CBT, and emphasizes that we decide how to face circumstances.
Identify irrational thoughts and replace them with rational ones through a self-guided rational debate, using three filters: evidence, consequences, and usefulness, to change beliefs and foster emotional balance.
Identify and write the emotions and behaviors produced by the new rational beliefs after replacing irrational ones, then evaluate whether these CBT-driven changes occur.
Apply a five-column chart to analyze situations, identify activating events, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors, and replace irrational thoughts with rational ones for lasting change.
Demonstrate how emotional intelligence and rational evaluation of irrational thoughts calm conflicts, through a personal example of dinner with his wife and a therapy-session scenario.
Demonstrate CBT in a couple’s therapy, as Dr. Ellis helps Dave and Karen challenge irrational beliefs about housing and finances and adopt rational views to improve emotions and behavior.
Identify irrational beliefs as evaluative, non-logical thoughts that hinder goal attainment and happiness, and learn how four types—obligations, catastrophism, depreciation, and global evaluation—block personal fulfillment.
Distinguish the need for approval from a healthy desire and cultivate self-approval to reduce dependence on others. Prove yourself, act with conviction, and give love without awaiting others' approval.
Recognize that you cannot master all domains and should not judge your worth by success alone; embrace your humanity, pursue excellence without obligation, and learn to enjoy what you do.
This lecture challenges the irrational idea of condemning others, urges you to separate the act from the person, and to distinguish responsibility from guilt to promote healthier relationships and change.
Recognize that frustration follows when outcomes don't meet expectations, but avoid concluding life is a catastrophe. Accept that life goes on and take steps to reduce frustration.
Learn to distinguish fear from anxiety, recognize that worry often worsens danger, and master facing fears through action and courage, repeatedly, while prioritizing real dangers over imagined ones.
Dr. Albert Ellis outlines three main irrational beliefs about self, others, and life, showing how high expectations drive frustration and that seeing desires as not needs or obligations reduces impact.
Learn to replace irrational beliefs with rational ones to cultivate a daily habit of philosophizing about life, reviewing your kosmo vision, and pursuing flexible, realistic desires.
embrace unconditional self-acceptance to build emotional stability and enduring self-esteem, recognizing your intrinsic value and evaluating only the aspects you need to review.
Accept others unconditionally as humans, see them without condemnation, and interpret their actions with compassion rather than judgment. Recognize suffering comes from your interpretation of others' behavior, not their actions.
Accept life unconditionally and focus on what you can control. Change your attitude toward problems to raise your tolerance for frustration.
Change how you see and talk about bad events, recognizing they are part of life but not the end. Face serious news with your head held high, avoiding catastrophizing.
Differentiate negative emotions into healthy and toxic, using intensity to guide CBT that overcomes emotions harming survival or happiness, not erasing all distress.
Explore how shame drives many disorders in REBT and how Ellis's exercises attack shame by deliberately doing tasks that would make them feel very ashamed.
Explore emotional rational imagination, a therapeutic exercise that imagines a worst-case event in detail, experiences related emotions, identifies irrational thoughts, and reshapes feelings through repetitive practice.
Identify persistent irrational beliefs and work to internalize rational ideas through disciplined conviction. Practice the energetic discussion: record the belief, debate it with a trusted friend, and test its validity.
