Intermediate Blues Keyboards
What you'll learn
- Intermediate level blues piano
Requirements
- Someone who already knows chords and minimal music theory will get the most out of this course.
Description
This is the most in-depth course I’ve ever seen to expand your knowledge of blues playing.
We start out by getting you ready for the blues and then dive into the powerhouse blues chords that will up your game immediately. These chords will change your sound forever. You could stop here and get the full value of this course.
Comping (Accompaniment) - what to play when you’re not taking a solo so that you can enhance the music without getting in the way. Learn how to be an EXCELLENT musician by knowing when not to play, and knowing exactly what to do to make the other musicians shine. We will cover:
Rides
Voice-Leading
Guide Tones/Leading Tones
Bass Lines
Grooves
Turnarounds
Then we will get into improvising - I’ll teach you how to really rock out on blues licks and solos, and I’ll teach you the big bad secret of blues licks. We will cover:
Ideas
Available Tones
Playing Over The Chord
Phrasing
Sliding Notes
Blues Licks
Finally, we’ll move to the final exam where you’ll find over 3 hours of play-along backing tracks created specifically for this course, essentially testing your knowledge with a “live band” for confidence and creativity.

Instructor
I started teaching keyboards at age 19, and have been playing live shows and teaching for 29 years. I've released 6 albums, 2 of which are blues-based music. I've been involved with the CW Network, Penn & Teller's "Fool Us", and I've played backing tracks for The Voice. I have a lot of success teaching this particular method to my students based on the functions of blues keyboard in music: The blues form, 7-9 chords, comping, and improvising.
