What you'll learn

  • Will be able to finalise the offered specifications of a pumping systems according to the application.
  • How to develop and use Quality Control Plans, Inspection Test Plans as quality assurance tools to verify the in-built quality of the product.
  • How to use acceptance and testing standards (ISO 9906-2012 and ANSI/HI 14.6 – 2011) to qualify or otherwise, pumps and pumping systems.
  • What documentation, reports, supporting material is required to conclude the acceptance process.

Course content

4 sections16 lectures6h 24m total length
  • Introduction to basic concepts of Hydraulics, Pumps and Pumping systems8:55
  • Classification of Pump Types20:14

This lecture explains the features of the classification of the pumps which is internationally recognised and thus it ensures that the designation once used conveys the same information without ambiguity.

  • Basic Hydraulics25:56

A few basic concepts related to pumps and hydraulics are explained in this lecture before going further.

  • Cavitation and NPSH19:24

In this lecture we will cover the phenomenon of cavitation and its relationship with Net Positive Suction Head available. We will further introduce the re-circulation and vortex formation.

  • Reading Pump Performance Curves20:34

Pump performance curves are loaded with information and some times not so clear as different manufacturers use different formats. We explain these subtleties in detail.

Requirements

  • Persons with engineering back ground and field experience in pumps and pumping systems, inspections and QA.

Description

This course is designed for engineers and managers striving to ensure high reliability whenever preparing specifications, purchasing, inspecting or conducting acceptance testing of critical application pumps and pumping systems. This course covers:

1. The quality assurance processes (using QCP) essential for manufacturing of a quality product,

2. The QCP includes the details of hold points and witness points necessary for ensuring the right quality of the product.

3. The QCP includes types of certifications and procedures for the materials supplied by the vendors and traded goods suppliers.

4. Steps in the form of templates necessary for conducting an effective inspection,

5. Acceptance testing according to standards, ISO 9906 and HI 14.6 are included in this course and the acceptance and rejection criteria is clearly discussed and explained/

6. Interpretation of acceptance test results and further actions.

These processes are explained in detail, along with requirements and applications elaborated with examples. Worked examples, templates, graphs and exercises are used to facilitate application in the field. Additional literature and contemporary pump industry practices are discussed extensively to enrich the content and to enhance its practical value. The course is divided into modules each of suitable duration to allow participants to plan attendance according to their convenience.

Who this course is for:

  • Engineers and engineering managers responsible for the sales, manufacturing, testing and inspections of critical pumps and pumping systems. or as end users
  • Engineers and Managers as end users responsible for developing specifications and locking purchase deals with vendors.
  • Quality assurance team members, and inspectors from the user or from independent organisations.
