Description

In this course you will learn how to solve quadratic equations using factorization, using a specific formula as well as completion of the square. It consists of 6 lessons, where the last lesson is theory and follows directly from lesson 5. After the first 5 lessons you are given equations to solve using the methods explained in that particular lesson.

It is important to know how to solve quadratic equations because you use it almost everywhere in mathematics.

Who this course is for:
  • Students busy with quadratic equations in their syllabus as well as those who want to brush up on their quadratic equation skills.

In this lesson I teach you how to solve for x(the unknown)  if you have a simple quadratic equation (3 terms) where the coefficient (number in front of x squared) is 1. The lesson also contains a page with 20 equations for you to solve on your own after you watched the video. A separate file contains the answers.
Preview 12:10
Following lesson one , we look at how to solve three term quadratic equations where the coefficient of the x squared is not 1. As before 20 questions test your ability to solve these equations with answers in a separate file.

In this lesson we still factorize but there are only two terms of a quadratic equation, that is the constant is 0 or the middle (x term) is 0. As before there are questions for you to try on your own with the answers in a separate document.

When factorization becomes difficult or downright impossible with "clean" factors, we use a specific formula. This lesson teaches you how to use this formula. As usual there are a few equations for you to try with the answers.

We solve quadratic equations  in this lesson by using completion of the square.
It is an important technique one can use to solve various other types of mathematical problems .
See if you are able to do the challenge at the end of the 5 quadratic equations which you have to solve using completion of the square.

You need to work through at least lesson 5 to understand the theory presented here. We derive the formula to solve for the unknown in a quadratic equation by using completion of the square.
