Python PCAP-31-03 Practice Tests | 320 Questions [2026]

320 questions in 4 timed sets. Single-choice and multi-select practice. Explanations for every answer option.
Last updated 10/2026
English

What you'll learn

  • Cover all 5 PCAP-31-03 domains (Modules, Exceptions, Strings, OOP, Misc) at official weights via 320 questions in 4 timed 65-min sets
  • Handle multi-select (choose two) questions by identifying every true statement about Python behavior with evidence from the docs
  • Predict Python OOP code output: classes, multiple inheritance, C3 MRO, polymorphism, dunder methods (34% of the real PCAP-31-03 exam)
  • Apply exception handling: trace try/except/else/finally flow, raise and chain exceptions, define custom exception class hierarchies
  • Manipulate strings via slicing (negative indices, step), str methods, f-strings, str.format(), %-formatting, plus immutability rules
  • Explain modules and packages: import resolution, relative imports, __init__, __name__ guards, sys.path, multi-file layout
  • Use generators, iterators, decorators, closures, lambda, list/dict/set comprehensions, file I/O, and shallow vs deep copy semantics

Like the real exam, each 80-question set includes 12 multi-select questions (two correct answers) alongside single-choice questions. Multi-select questions are marked "(Choose 2.)" in the question text.

Practice for Python PCAP-31-03 with 320 exam-style questions in 4 timed sets of 80. Every answer option is explained. This course targets PCAP-31-03. Check the current exam version before booking.

This course is an unofficial practice exam for the   Python Institute PCAP-31-03 (Certified Associate Python Programmer) certification.   Based on the publicly available PCAP-31-03 Exam Syllabus, it delivers   320 questions across 4 full-length sets (80 questions each) — with detailed   explanations for every answer option so you understand why each choice is right or wrong.   This is NOT an official Python Institute exam and is not affiliated with Python Institute.

What's covered (4 sets × 80 questions, 65 min each)

  • Set 1 — Modules, Packages & Exceptions Foundation (80 questions):     Import mechanics, package structure, __init__, relative imports,     exception hierarchy, try/except/else/finally, custom exception classes,     and raising exceptions. Designed to solidify your baseline on the two most     frequently tested structural topics.

  • Set 2 — Strings & OOP Core (80 questions):     String methods, slicing, formatting (f-strings, format(), %), encoding basics,     class definition, instance vs. class attributes, constructors (__init__),     and single inheritance. Targets the two highest-weight domains in one focused set.

  • Set 3 — OOP Advanced & Miscellaneous Patterns (80 questions):     Multiple inheritance, Method Resolution Order (MRO), polymorphism, operator overloading,     abstract classes, special/dunder methods, plus generators, iterators, closures,     lambda, list comprehensions, and built-in functions.     OOP 34% + Miscellaneous 22% = 56% of the real exam — stress-tested here.

  • Set 4 — Full-Spectrum Readiness Check (80 questions):     Proportionally mirrors the official domain weights across all five areas.     Zero question overlap with Sets 1–3. Use this as your final timed simulation     before sitting the live exam.

5-Domain weight distribution (official PCAP-31-03)

  • Modules and Packages (12% / ~10 questions per set): import, from...import, __name__, __init__, packages, relative imports, sys.path

  • Exceptions (14% / ~11 questions per set): Exception hierarchy, try/except/else/finally, raise, assert, custom exception classes, chained exceptions

  • Strings (18% / ~14 questions per set): String methods, slicing, f-strings, format(), %, ord/chr, encoding concepts, immutability

  • Object-Oriented Programming (34% / ~27 questions per set): Classes, objects, __init__, inheritance, MRO (C3 linearization), polymorphism, overloading, dunder methods, abstract base classes — the single largest domain

  • Miscellaneous (22% / ~18 questions per set): Generators, iterators, closures, decorators, lambda, list/dict/set comprehensions, map/filter/zip, shallow vs. deep copy, file I/O basics

Why OOP mastery is non-negotiable for PCAP-31-03

  • At 34% of the exam, OOP is the single largest domain — more than Modules and Exceptions combined

  • MRO and multiple inheritance questions regularly trip up candidates; this course includes dedicated sequences that isolate and drill MRO edge cases

  • Operator overloading and dunder methods (__str__, __repr__, __add__, __len__, etc.) appear far more often than most study guides suggest

  • Abstract base classes (abc module) and @abstractmethod are tested in scenario-based questions — covered thoroughly here

Code-reading skill is the real differentiator

  • Practice reading Python code and predicting its output. Use the explanations to follow each step.

  • Every set includes a heavy proportion of "What is the output of this code?" questions covering scope (LEGB), class attribute lookup, exception propagation, and generator behavior

  • Explanations trace through execution step by step so you build genuine code-tracing speed, not just pattern recognition

Common pain points this exam targets

  • Confused about the order of MRO in diamond inheritance scenarios? Dedicated MRO drill questions resolve this

  • Unsure when an exception propagates vs. gets silenced by a finally block? Exception flow questions cover every combination

  • String slicing with negative indices and step values still tripping you up? Isolated string manipulation questions close that gap

  • Generator expressions vs. list comprehensions — memory implications and lazy evaluation tested in Miscellaneous domain questions

  • The real exam is 40 questions in 65 minutes; time pressure is real. All sets enforce strict 65-minute discipline

Why these practice tests work

  • All-option explanations: Every question explains why each option is correct or incorrect — not just the right answer

  • Strict domain weight alignment: Modules 12% / Exceptions 14% / Strings 18% / OOP 34% / Misc 22% — matched to the official syllabus in every set

  • Practice format: The official exam has 40 questions in 65 minutes, while each set here has 80 questions with the same 65-minute timer, so you work at twice the pace of the real exam. The 70% passing target matches the official PCAP-31-03 passing score.

  • Four independent sets, zero duplication: 320 unique questions; difficulty distribution spans easy, medium, and hard tiers

  • Mobile-friendly design: Drill questions during your commute — every explanation is readable on a smartphone screen

Notes

  • This is NOT an official Python Institute exam. It is an unofficial practice test created with reference to the publicly available PCAP-31-03 Exam Syllabus

  • The 70% passing score guideline is a reference only and does not guarantee a passing score on the actual exam

  • Questions and explanations reflect Python 3 language specifications. Always verify behavior against your target Python version and the current official syllabus

How to use this course

Take the first test under timed conditions to set a baseline. After scoring, read the explanations, including those for questions you answered correctly, and note the topics you hesitated on before moving to the next test. Spreading the 4 tests over several study sessions helps the concepts stick. Treat each score as a guide to your weak areas.

This course may not suit you if:

- You want video lectures that teach the topics from scratch. This course is practice tests with written explanations.

- You want a hands-on lab environment. The questions run in the browser and do not include a live environment.

No extra subscription or tool is needed to take the tests. The exam fee is not included.
