Your book is ready, but are you? What name will you use? Will you be writing in differing genres with individual pseudonyms?

Preview 03:44

Before it is ready for publishing, your book requires one or more editing passes. You should definitely do the firs pass yourself to detect spelling errors and general colloquialisms. The next pass will probably be most effective if it is done by a third-party. Of course, that decision is up to you, your circle of influence and your budget.

Lecture 5: Having Your Book Edited

You will use the information gathered from the in-depth reader profile to come up with a truly appealing book title and description.

Your Title and Book Description

Are you feeling creative? If so, you may be confident enough to create your own book cover. If you had rather pass this responsibility to a third party, we have some resources to help in that decision.

Nook Press has been renamed to B&N Press. This course will walk through the steps of formatting an Ebook for publication on B&N Press. You can begin with the attached template or create your own based on the formatting requirements. Enjoy the course and reap the benefits of publishing your Ebook for the world.

Publishing on B&N Press (previously Nook)

Publishing on Google Play is much simpler than the others due to the fact that you only need to export to PDF and upload. See the resources section for helpful links and a fill-in-the-blank template for publishing your book on Google Play.

Congratulations on completing the text of your Ebook. This course will guide you through formatting that text for submission to the Smashwords site and inclusion across their various formats - iBooks, Kobo, Nook, Kindle, etc. Enjoy the lecture and included resources; leading to rewarding additional income for your efforts.

Publishing on Smashwords

Now that you have your Ebook available to the world, possibly across multiple platforms, it is time to embrace those readers who get a big thrill out of "just holding a book." Publishing through CreateSpace gives that opportunity.

+ Promoting Your Book

Why is this the first area discussed under promotions? Because it is the most important. There are "free" options for hosting your web site but they are generally used as ad purveyors for the host. There are lower cost web hosts who may work well for experimentation and building your first site. On the opposite end, there are professional hosting companies that charge a few dollars for each offered feature and the "cheap" package that you started with ends up costing hundreds of dollars per year. Although the choice for hosting and design support is fully dependent on your desires and budget, creating a web site for the purpose of presenting your creation to the world should be considered mandatory.

Creating Your Website

Everyone has something that can be learned from others. You may need advertising help, answers to publishing questions, maybe even writing prompts. In this section of links, you will find a plethora of discussion forums to assist in getting your work out there to the world.

General / Promotion Discussion Forums

Are you a "social butterfly?" If so, you are leaps and bounds ahead of the average introvert personality. Yes, there are many benefits to be realized from free social network interactions. If you choose to use a free or paid service to increase your social exposure, something should be used to post while you are at the "bread and butter" job.

Free And Paid Promotion Using Your Favorite Social Networks

Sometimes you just have to break down and commit some money into the advertising budget. Where will you get a better return on investment? Google Adwords, banner ads, interstitials? That will all depend on how well they are categorized and placed. Do your research and find out which service can best serve your genre before committing the dollars.

Free and Paid Publisher Site Advertising

This is a tough one, since the key word here is "local." In this section, you will be exposed to various small bookstores in selected areas. There are great benefits to be gained from joining forces with your local bookstores. These benefits can include book signings, extra revenue and local recognition among many other benefits. Since there are so many areas that can be covered by potential students, these sites and stores just give you an example of the type of store that you may want to check into. I even included the local bookstore in Wilson, NC that I have dealt with on many occasions.

Connecting With Local Bookstores

This group of links will lead you to sites that will help in your self-publishing journey, for a price. Get things done from the editing process to advertising of your finished work. If you have a budget, be sure to do your own research and choose the service that will provide the best return on investment.
