Suicide is a complex and tragic phenomenon that affects millions of people worldwide.
Suicide is often seen as a psychological problem, caused by mental illness, stress, trauma, hopelessness, or impulsivity. However, suicide is also influenced by spiritual factors, such as beliefs, values, meaning, and purpose. In this lecture, we will explore the psycho-spiritual approach to suicide, which considers both the psychological and spiritual dimensions of suicidal thoughts and behaviour.
Understanding suicide entails exploring its statistics across different countries and delving into its intricate history. By comprehending these aspects, we can strive for better prevention and support strategies. Let's have a look at the latest statistics and facts in this lecture!
In recent years, disturbing trends have emerged, such as online challenges and games that encourage self-harm and suicidal behaviour among vulnerable individuals, particularly teenagers. These phenomena emphasises the need for vigilant monitoring of online content and proactive intervention strategies to protect young people from harmful influences. Let's have a look at this topic in greater details in this lecture!
In this lecture, we will talk about the history of suicide. From way back in ancient times to today, people have thought about suicide and what it means.
Today, we'll explore some of the main psychological theories of suicide. These theories help us understand why people might think about taking their own lives and what factors contribute to suicidal thoughts and behaviors.
In psychology, researchers have identified different types of suicide based on the reasons why someone might consider ending their life. Understanding these types can help psychologists and counselors develop effective strategies for suicide prevention and intervention.
When we talk about sprituality, we need to remember that it’s a 'massive topic' that can have many conflicting concepts within it. What 'spirituality' means for one person may be a very different thing for another. For one individual, this would be 'New Age spirituality', meditation and shamanic ceremonies, whereas for another person 'spirituality' means following a certain religion, worshipping God or deities, having regular spiritual practice such as prayer. So when we talk about faith and the attitude towards suicide from the spirituality point of view, I found that there can be a multitude of beliefs and attitude as the topic is quite broad!
Understanding how different cultures and countries view death can provide insight into cultural beliefs, rituals, and coping mechanisms surrounding the end of life. Let’s have a look at a simplified overview of various cultural perspectives on death in this lecture.
Welcome to the new section of the course where we’ll have a look evidence of the afterlife that comes to us from written books on ‘past life regression’ cases, Near-death experiences and the research studies
In this lecture, we delve into the intriguing phenomenon of Near-Death Experiences (NDE) and explore what research tells us about this fascinating topic.
Welcome, psychology students, to our exploration of the evidence of afterlife. Today, we embark on a fascinating journey to examine various sources, including religious texts, past life hypnotherapy cases, near-death experiences (NDEs), and research by prominent scholars, that suggest the existence of life beyond death.
Welcome, everyone, to today's discussion on a topic that touches upon the very depths of human existence: suicide as viewed by religion. Across different faith traditions, the concept of suicide is deeply intertwined with beliefs about life, death, morality, and the human soul. Let's explore how various religions approach this complex issue and what their teachings have to say about suicide.
Welcome, psychology students, to our discussion on the concept of 'Suicide' in New Age Spirituality. Before delving into the specific views on suicide, let's first explore what New Age spirituality encompasses and its foundational beliefs. See you in our class!
In the realm of New Age spirituality, views on suicide are nuanced and varied, reflecting the diversity of beliefs within the movement. Let's continue talking about this topic in our class!
As you know, Near-Death Experiences occur when individuals are on the brink of death or have been clinically dead for a brief period before being revived. During these experiences, people often report a variety of profound phenomena, including feelings of peace, encounters with deceased loved ones, and vivid life reviews. So what do they say about 'suicide'? Let's discuss it in our class!
From our previous lectures on NDEs you know that in majority of cases the person who committed suicide are not severely punished in hell, but instead they are shown compassion, understanding, and even unconditional love. Does anyone see 'hell'? Well, there are a few testimonies saying that as well. From Raymond Moody research we know that around 5% of NDE survivors refer to a scary experience of distress or confusion.
So with all the picture of nice compassionate welcome and understanding on the other side, does it mean that people who already have suicidal ideations, would be more inclined to do so?
Welcome to our exploration of the fascinating intersection of spirituality, mediumship, and and the afterlife. In this lecture, we embark on a journey into the realms beyond the physical, guided by the insights of spiritual authors, researchers, and renowned mediums. Let's delve into how these luminaries illuminate the topic of death, including the sensitive issue of suicide.

It's not an easy subject to talk about, but it's an important one. Let's explore what we can learn from their experiences, including insights from Near-Death Experiences (NDEs) and other research.
We remember information well when we have a chance to repeat what we have learned so far. So let’s briefly cover the modules 3 and 4 here.
