Description

Hi, learning to create profile is important in Revit. We use the profile family as a nested family in Revit wall sweeps/reveals, curtain wall mullions, and stair nosing profiles. Learning the profile family is easy, but knowing the usage is important. Take your time to learn from small examples. I have given a good explanation with examples. Watch all videos so that you will understand better.

First learn to create a profile for Sweep. You can use a model in place family tool to create a sweep. Apply the profile and check. If you get an error, learn to solve the error. Most of the time, errors occur due to overlapping lines and incorrect joints.

The profile family should be a single loop for sweep, but it can be a double sweep in case of a curtain wall mullion.

Adding more detail to the profile is possible with a nested symbol family. For example, for a curtain wall mullion family, you can draw the outer line in the mullion profile family. But to add more detail for the mullion, you need to add a symbol family inside the profile family. For any BIM modeler, creating Revit families is an essential skill. Creating a profile family is an advanced skill.

All the best in your learning.
