Welcome to the course! I'm so excited you've decided to join me on this journey and explore your new talents. I absolutely love being self employed and I'm looking forward to passing on some of my experience. Let's get started!
In this section I'll introduce some of my favourite tools to you. A quick guide to the basics you'll need in your kit, and what each is used for. Of course you can have hundreds of brushes, sponges and accessories, but these are the ones I particularly love.
Everyone is different when it comes to face shapes, and this will give you a quick guide into what categories people typically fall into. Understanding someone's face shape will help you ensure they look their best when you style them.
Identifying the skin type of your client is going to be very important for giving the best application possible. Oily, dry or combination skin will all need to be treated different to ensure a long lasting and perfect finish to the makeup.
The situation in which your makeup will be used will make a very big difference to how you should apply it. Are you doing an elegant bridal look, a high drama photoshoot look, or simply a natural looking day style? Identify the needs and then look out for these common pitfalls.
First we'll look at how to pre your base. Moisturising, toning and using a carefully selected primer will all give you a great foundation to work from. Don't underestimate this step!
Now we're on to eyeliner and an eyeshadow base. Again, using a primer is a great idea, and setting a neutral colour to the eye will really get things started. I like to do my eyeliner with a brush but you can also get a felt pen style skinny eyeliner too if you find that easier.
False lashes is an area of makeup that a lot of people find intimidating but it really needn't be hard. Simply trim the lashes down, give the glue plenty of time to go tacky, and take your time when applying them. We'll also cover eyeshadow here and how to turn up the volume on the base we did earlier.
Now that the eyes are done and there's no danger of dropping dark eyeshadow onto your cheeks we can do foundation. Then we'll also shape the face with bronzer, contouring and blush.
Brows are a super hot topic right now so getting the right amount of colour and shape is vital! It's easy to go overboard, but leaving your brows undone is a mistake too. Be sure to get a perfect balance to shape the face and highlight all the best features.
Highlighter is another huge trend right now and really lifts the face from looking over-done or aged. It adds a youthful summer glow and will help your client feel confident and relaxed.
Let's not forget lips! Whether you want a natural or a strong colour, getting a good lipliner base and soft gloss on top will do your makeup look the world of good. Also add a nourishing balm underneath to give your client beautifully soft lips all day.
Here I'll let you in to some of my top secrets! I'll give you information on which products and tools I love, and the tips I've picked up through years of training and experience. Hope you find it useful.
Next let's take a look at fishtail braids. These are a lovely versatile bridal look and are very on trend right now. I'll give you a detailed demo on how you do one, and how easy they can be! They work on a wide range of hair types and can be intricate or messy as your taste takes you.
French plaits are the all time classic braid. I'll teach you how to do it, and give some ideas of different ways you can use it.
Milk maid (or sometimes called Halo) braids seem complicated and intricate but are actually very simple. Here's a demo on how to do one and a few different options it creates!
Finally we'll look at curls. I'm going to demo how with just a simple curling wand you can create a whole range of beautiful looks. Whether it's for bridal or a photoshoot you definitely shouldn't underestimate how many different vibes you can create. Try soft looks and highly styled options too.
Want to learn all my secrets? Here's your chance! These are a few of my favourite tips for ensuring you create a perfect base and make it last all day.
We've got one final demo for you - a full eye look. We look at bringing it from Day to Vintage to Smokey and how you can easily transition between the three. Building a natural base is always going to be a great way to start any eye look, and this a great demonstration of how.
Congratulations - you've completed the whole course! Now be sure to leave a review, follow me on social media, and leave comments and inspiration in the discussion forum. I'd love to know how your work is coming along and help with any queries you might have.
