Watch this lecture whilst practicing picking up small, medium and large beads onto some kitchen towel. Observe the consistency - is it granular and grainy, is it smooth and round, is it runny and shiny. Use this practice to moderate your ratios- so you become aware of the chemistry to gain a small and well balance bead of monomer and polymer or a medium or large. Once you’ve mastered picking up and also identify the qualities of a dry, medium or wet bead - it will be much easier to work with acrylic and trouble shoot any issues with application.
Dry bead - less time to work it
Medium bead - perfect to work with
Wet bead - More time but a lot more control needed
Large bead’s: wipe of brush with medium pressure once
Medium bead: wipe off brush 3x
small bead: wipe off 5x
Wipe from the neck of the brush to the stem at a slight diagonal with a medium pressure.
( this is just a guideline for a the average and needs to be adapted to suit you as we all have heavier or lighter touches and with that the size of your clients nail plaits at time will vary - but for the most part this rule of thumb has worked for me and my students)
