This is the first video in the tutorial where you will install the 3rd party plug ins. You will then select the correct pre-sets from each synth in order to replicate that classic sound for each instrument. Please make sure you download the zip file in this lecture.
Importing the beats and some percussion loops. Also you will add some reverb effects.
Begin to insert 808 drum machine Hi-Hats and create a short pattern within the drum rack. Plus add the electric toms also.
Continuing with the percussion, we add the Oberheim claps and the 808 crash cymbals.
Here we begin to learn and play the bass synth from the Juno VST. We also edit it and quantise the notation.
Recording in the classic Synth Brass sound to create the riffs.
This lesson is where we manipulate a bass sound and turn it into a hi octave lead synth.
Here you will begin to add further rhythmic patterns so we can develop the track into another section.
Here we will add in the second bass line so that the track can evolve into the next section.
Here you will record in the notation for the second section of the arrangement.
This lesson will show you how to produce a short clap fill and add crashes and electric toms to create an impact.
Here we begin the arrangement process and start to create an authentic intro that resembles one from the 80's.
Here we will add some trills and a high string/pad lead line for effect to build up the track.
This is where you will be automating some delay on the claps and adding an effective synth lead for an additional effect before the track evolves into the main body.
Here we enter the main body of the track, whilst adding finishing touches to the intro.
Continuing with the arrangement, by adding more synths and extra percussion.
Here we take the track into the chord change and develop the track further along the time line.
Here you will add an extensive percussive section and then return to the main body of the track for one last run.
Here we close the track on the arrangement side, and end it with the atmospheric pads, whilst adding finishing touches to the claps and the Brass Synth.
In this tutorial, you will begin the mixing process where you will focus on the drums and how they will sound in the final version.
Here you will mix the Bass by adding some E.Q and compressors. The pads will be split into two separate channels for chords and leads to create a clearer mix for different parts of the track.
The final part of the mixing will be focused on the synths and the lead line synth. Here you will bring the mix to a close and tidy up any small issues that you may have overlooked in the previous lessons.
This is the final summary where I will discuss the track overall and recap on the things you have learnt in order to now move forward and start to produce your own tracks within this genre. I also bounce the final mix to a wave file for the mastering process.
This Ableton Live course focuses on the genre of the mid 1980's which was a combination of Electronic Soul and Funk, with a Dance feel to it.
Here you will learn the concepts of this genre by installing the correct VST synths at no extra cost, and learn how to select the right combination of sounds and effects in order to produce a 1980's Electronic Funk record.
Using the Drum machine sounds you will program in beat patterns and also learn and perform certain chord progressions and lead lines and melodies to get the actual feel for this track that sounds like it could have been recorded in 1985.
From the very start you will take advantage of the techniques I have applied in quick and easy to follow tutorials. You will also learn a wide variety of skills from using effects and automating these to further your production skills.
You will gain experience in arrangement and in equalising and mixing your song for a polished version that will be ready for mastering.
The whole idea is to give you the skills and the techniques to then go ahead and produce your own track in this style by using these plug ins and drum machine sounds.
Lessons are broken down into short tutorials and will focus on the following.
1. installing VST Synths and selecting the correct sounds.
2. programming Drum beats.
3. Creating an intro.
4. Arrangement skills.
5. Learn how to play chords and melodies
6. Program additional drum patterns for a solo.
7. Use automation and effect plug ins to create authenticity.
8. Mixing and equalising your track.
