"Welcome to the masterclass! In this introductory lesson, we will go over the course objectives and the professional workflow for rendering realistic textures in Procreate. Please make sure to download the attached resources (brushes and color swatches) from the 'Resources' button below before moving on to the next lecture."
In this first lesson, we start from scratch. You will learn how to set up your canvas in Procreate and build a precise, symmetrical construction sketch of the pouf — step by step. We will use the Symmetry tool, the 2D Grid guide, and a structured layering method to define the three segments and the base of the pouf with accuracy and confidence. By the end of this lesson, you will have a clean, professional sketch — ready for color, texture and light.
In this lesson, we bring the sketch to life with color. You will learn how to apply flat base colors with precision, using the correct brush settings and opacity levels to build a clean foundation. We will work with two carefully selected tones — one for the fabric body and one for the metallic base. A clean base color is the foundation of every professional rendering.
In this lesson, we move from flat color to three dimensional form. You will learn how to use the 2B Compressed brush to create a soft, realistic fabric texture — building volume gradually with multiple layers and Clipping Masks. We will work with shadow tones and mid tones to define the shape of each segment and give the pouf its characteristic softness.
In this lesson, we add light. You will learn how to place soft highlights using the Round Render brush and refine the light texture using the Edge Control brush. We will work with highlight colors from our palette to create gentle light transitions that enhance the volume and softness of the velvet fabric. Highlights should never be sharp — they should feel like light naturally resting on the surface.
In this lesson, we refine everything. You will learn how to define the edges between shadow and light, accentuate the fabric creases for a realistic wrinkled effect, and deepen the division between the three segments of the pouf. Using Gaussian Blur, Multiply mode, and the Smudge tool, we bring all the elements together into a cohesive, elegant and professional illustration.
In this final lesson, we complete the pouf. You will learn how to render the golden metallic base using warm tones, reflections and highlights, and how to create a realistic projected shadow beneath the object. By the end of this lesson, your pouf will have a three dimensional presence that looks truly professional — ready to be used in any interior design presentation.

Welcome to this step-by-step Procreate masterclass where you will learn how to draw a realistic velvet pouf from scratch — covering everything from the initial construction sketch to the final metallic base and projected shadow.
This course is designed for interior designers, architects, and digital artists who want to improve their furniture rendering skills in Procreate and achieve professional, elegant results. Starting from a blank canvas, you will follow a structured process that covers every stage of the illustration — canvas setup, symmetry tools, base color application, soft fabric texture, volume, highlights, light control, and final refinements. Every single step includes exact brush names, size settings, opacity values, and hex color codes — so you never have to guess.
You will learn how to use the 2B Compressed brush to create a realistic velvet fabric effect, how to build volume and depth using Clipping Masks and layering techniques, and how to apply soft highlights that make the illustration feel truly three-dimensional. The course also covers how to render a metallic golden base with reflections and warm tones, and how to create a realistic projected shadow that grounds the object on the surface.
What makes this course unique is the level of detail provided at every step. This is not just a drawing tutorial — it is a complete rendering system that teaches you how to think and work like a professional interior design illustrator. The techniques you will learn here can be applied to any upholstered furniture — sofas, armchairs, ottomans and more. Once you understand the principles of light, shadow, texture and material, you can render any object with confidence. All you need is an iPad with Procreate installed and a basic knowledge of the app. Everything else will be taught inside the course.
