In this lecture you will be introduced to what you will learn in this course and what you will need to have to complete this course. You will also learn how the course is organized and how you are best advised to progress through it.
In this lecture you will learn how to create the pattern that we will use to make a brush that paints as a pattern of dots. This is the first and most simple of the brushes and introduces the process we will be using to make the patterns and later the brushes in this section of the course.
This lecture focuses on making the dot pattern that will be used in the next lecture. You will also learn how to test your pattern to make sure it works ahead of using it for a brush.
In this lecture we will take the design we made in the last lecture and make it into a pattern brush in Procreate. You will learn how to take an image of the screen to make your brush, how to add it as a grain source and how to configure the brush so it paints evenly and showing the pattern correctly.
You will also learn how to change the size of the brush so the pattern gets bigger and smaller when the brush changes size - and also you will learn how to fix the size of the pattern so it doesn't change when the brush size changes. You can use either of these options to suit your own needs.
In this lecture you will learn how to create a gingham pattern and make a brush from that pattern.
You will also learn how to configure the brush so it paints the size pattern that you want it to paint.
In this lecture you will learn to make a whimsical star pattern which isn't totally symmetrical and which is more abstract. You will see how to create the pattern and then turn it into a brush to use in Procreate.
Learn to make an overlapping circles pattern brush in Procreate. You will see how to create the overlapping circles pattern and then how to create it as a brush.
In this lecture you will see how these multi layer pattern brushes work so you have a reference point for learning how to make them yourself.
In this lecture you will learn how to create the basic donut design that you will later turn into a pattern and then into a series of brushes that will overlap perfectly.
In this lecture you will learn how to turn your donut design into a seamless repeating pattern.
Before you actually create your brushes it is a good idea to make sure your pattern actually works. In this lecture you will learn how to test the seamless repeating pattern to make sure it works as it should.
After completing and testing your design you are now ready to prepare your file ready to make a series of brushes from it. In this lecture you will learn how to organize your file into groups of layers to make it each to make your brushes.
Now all the preparation is over it is time to make the brushes. In this lecture you will make each of the brushes that, together, will make your donut. You will make the donut itself as a brush, the icing as a second brush and you will make two sprinkles brushes.
Now your brushes are all complete it is time to test them to make sure they work.
In this lecture you will learn to make a second design to turn into a multi layered brush. In this case the design will include some elements that utilize tints so you will be able to achieve multiple tints of a color in a single brush.
You will also learn how to handle elements that overlap each other so the at the brushes, ultimately, will be easier for someone to use.
In this lecture you will learn to turn your basic cactus design into a seamless repeating pattern. You will also learn how to test the pattern to make sure it works.
In this lecture you will take the pattern that you created and turn it into a set of brushes that will paint your cactus in multiple colors.
Now the brushes are complete it is time to test that they work. In this lecture you will learn how to test your completed cactus pattern brushes.
In this lecture you will learn a simple method for embedding instructions as to how to use the brushes inside the brush set itself.
In this lecture you will learn how to Export brushes out of Procreate and how to Import brushes into Procreate.
In this lecture you will learn how to add some additional functionality into your brush sets.
As you have now finished up the video content for this course this lecture congratulates you for completing the course and it explains what other courses you can do from here on.
From the moment I first saw the iPad I wanted one so I could draw anywhere. Unlike a laptop my iPad fits in my hand and I can literally take it anywhere and draw anytime. I played with literally dozens of drawing apps before I found Procreate and I instantly recognized its power and potential - as did hundreds of thousands of other users! Procreate is a wonderful app for drawing and painting. A secondary market has developed around Procreate where designers make Procreate brushes to sell to other users. And that, dear friend, is what this course is all about.
What is this course about?
This course teaches you to make Procreate texture brushes that paint seamless repeating patterns. Basically any illustrative element can be made into a repeating pattern and then into one or more Procreate brushes. We'll make simple designs as a single brush, and turn more complex designs into multiple brushes that stack on top of each other to paint multi-color designs. How to do this is what you will learn here.
How good at drawing do I have to be?
Lucky for you, it really doesn’t matter if you can draw or not. You can make these brushes from circles and squares and simple designs that anyone can make. And if you can draw well, then that works too and you can create more artistically complex brushes. If you search online you will find designers offer for sale both very simple designs as well as more complex ones.
Who is this class for?
If you love to drawing and sketching and you want to make product to sell, this course is a great starting point. In it you will learn all the skills you need to create a range of different brushes ready for sale using just your iPad and Procreate 5X. There's nothing more that you need.
How will you learn?
This course is taught step by step. I'll explain everything as we go along so you know why you're doing things and not just what to do.
If there are 'tricky bits' or places where things might go wrong, I'll show them to you so, if they happen to you, you'll know what to do.
If you follow along with the course, you will design 4 single pattern brushes, and 2 sets of layered texture brushes all ready for sale.
Who is teaching this course?
I'm Helen Bradley and I am your teacher. I've love to draw and design and I like nothing more than to teach others to do the same using the most popular illustration software. I've taught hundreds of thousands of designers and artists to use Procreate, Illustrator, and Photoshop. I don't fluff about and I'm 100% focused on helping you to learn Procreate in a practical and smart way. I am committed to explaining everything to you so you know the 'why' as well as the 'how' of any process.
I have a huge commitment to your learning – I answer all student questions and I will often add extra videos to a course to answer questions that one student might have and that I think others might benefit from too.
How will I learn?
Video content makes up 100% of this course. As you watch, I show you how each pattern and brush is made, and I'll explain what I am doing and why. And you can follow along as you watch and make the designs and the brushes yourself.
