In this lecture you will be introduced to what you will learn in this course and what you will need to have to complete this course. You will also learn how the course is organized and how you are best advised to progress through it.
In this lecture you will learn to create a basic scatter brush of circles that are offset from the brush line and which paint multiples of dots at a time.
In this lecture you will further configure the scatter brush to paint different sized dots and to paint at full opacity regardless of the Apple Pencil pressure.
In this lecture you will further configure the scatter brush to paint different color dots. You will also learn about other brush color options which we don't use for this brush but which you might want to use for other brushes in the future.
In this lecture you will repeat the steps start to finish to create a second scatter brush. However, this time the brush element (a heart) has a distinct top and bottom so you will learn your two options for rotating the brush shape as you paint with the brush.
To create a combined brush you will need a second brush to combine with your scatter brush. In this lecture you will learn how to make a brush with a more painterly look to it.
Now you have made your two brushes you are ready to combine the confetti brush with the painterly brush so they paint together at the same time. In this lecture you'll combine the two brushes together.
In this lecture you will learn how to adjust the brush settings for both the combined brushes so they paint together nicely. You will learn how to fade one brush when the pencil pressure is heavier and how to adjust the relative size of each brush within the combined brush.
In this lecture you will repeat the process to combine your heart shape rotating scatter brush with a painterly brush and configure it to paint in interesting ways.
Learn to build a dual brush with an edge effect in Procreate 5x by combining two dot brushes into a border brush with edge dots and color dynamics.
In this lecture you will learn how a larger spacing on one brush relative to the other brush can create an interesting effect. You will also learn how to separately configure the size of your brushes to give different results.
In this lecture you will learn how to use the Difference blend effect to control how two brushes interact with each other. In this case the result is a very professional looking outline brush. You will also learn what to do to fix a problem with this brush that occurs when you lift your pen off the screen when drawing with it.
While many of Procreate's own brushes are dual brushes not all of them are. In this lecture you will learn how to combine Procreate's own brushes together to make a dual brush. You will also learn some important concepts to be aware of when combining brushes in Procreate.
If you plan to sell or to share your brushes you need to know how to get them out of Procreate to a standalone file that you can share. You also need to know how to install brushes in Procreate. In this lecture you will learn how to save and share your brushes and also how to import brushes into Procreate. This lecture uses Google Drive as one method for saving brush files but email is also explored in case you don't have access to Google Drive.
Now you have completed the course I'll show you some other classes that you might be interested in studying including a course on making pattern brushes in Procreate.
From the moment I first saw the iPad I wanted it so I could draw anywhere. My iPad fits in my hand and I can take it anywhere and draw anytime. I played with dozens of drawing apps before I found Procreate and I instantly recognized its power and potential - as did hundreds of thousands of other users! Procreate is a wonderful app for drawing and painting. And for creators, the secondary market that has developed around Procreate means you can make Procreate assets to sell to others. And that, dear friend, is what this course is all about – making cool brushes you can use yourself and sell to others..
What is this course about?
This course teaches you to make Procreate Dual brushes. These are two separate brushes that you combine together into one brush so that, when you paint with it, you paint both brush strokes at once. That's it! Well almost! First you need to make your two brushes, then you need to combine them and then, like pre-schoolers, they need to be taught to play nice together.
Dual brushes are lots of fun to create and use and there are lots of applications for them from brushes that paint confetti style with an underlying brush stoke to outline brushes that erase their middles as they draw. In this course we'll make a range of brushes and combine them to make interesting dual brushes.
How good at drawing do I have to be?
Lucky for you, it doesn’t matter if you can draw or not. You can make these dual brushes from circles and lines. The real skill here is in learning how to combine simple brushes to create much more interesting ones.
Who is this class for?
If you love Procreate and want to make product to sell, this course is a great starting point. In it you will learn all the skills you need to create a range of different dual brushes ready for sale using just your iPad and Procreate 5X. There's nothing more that you need.
How will you learn?
This course is taught step by step. I'll explain everything as we go along so you know why you're doing things and not just what to do.
If there are 'tricky bits' or places where things might go wrong, I'll show them to you so, if they happen to you, you'll know what to do.
If you follow along with the course, you will design 4 completely original dual brushes ready for sale.
Who is teaching this course?
I'm Helen Bradley and I am your teacher. I've love to draw and design and I like nothing more than to teach others to do the same using the most popular illustration software. I've taught hundreds of thousands of designers and artists to use Procreate, Illustrator, and Photoshop. I don't fluff about and I'm 100% focused on helping you to learn Procreate in a practical and smart way. I am committed to explaining everything to you so you know the 'why' as well as the 'how' of any process.
I have a huge commitment to your learning – I answer all student questions and I will often add extra videos to a course to answer questions that one student might have and that I think others might benefit from too.
How will I learn?
Video content makes up 100% of this course. As you watch, I show you how each pattern and brush is made, and I'll explain what I am doing and why. And you can follow along as you watch and make the designs and the brushes yourself.
