Process and Mechanical Design of Process Equipments I
Requirements
- Fundamentals of design and Process calculations of equipments
Description
This course deals with the process design and Mechanical design of process vessels and equipments used in the chemical process industries. The fundamental of design is described prior to the main design procedure in each section. This course is useful for an undergraduate students of Chemical Engineering. This course includes the Mechanical design of Storage vessels and Tall columns such as distillation column. It also includes the process design of shell and Tube Heat Exchanger and Calendria type single effect evaporator. It is useful for the better understanding of the design course of Chemical Engineering. This course is an attempt towards the conceptual understanding of the design aspects of some of the process equipments. Thermal design of shell and Tube Heat Exchanger is well described based on the Kern's Method available in the open source literature. The Mechanical Design of storage vessel and Tall column is emphasized with the design of important part of the process vessels. The codes used to design the storage vessels are API-650 and IS-803. The process deign of single effect evaporator starts with the process calculations of Material balance and Enthalpy balance of evaporator. The storage vessels are used to store the fluids in chemical industries, whereas the tall columns such as distillation column and absorption column are used for the separation.
Who this course is for:
- Chemical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering students
Instructor
Post Graduate in Chemical Engineering, working as Assistant Professor in Chemical Engineering to teach undergraduate students for last 20 years. I deal with the subject of Process design of equipments as a special area of interest. I refer the standard references for the preparation of the study material. In addition to the theory, one must visualise the industry as whole to understand the design concepts.
