In this chapter, you’ll see an overview of the entire course of problem solving and fearless decision making, and have an understanding of what it’s all about.
In this chapter, you’ll learn what stops your brain from coming up with lots of amazing ideas and figure out what type of problem solver you are. Then you’ll see how to use your problem solving “type” to solve problems and make fearless decisions.
In this chapter, you’ll find out all about the Instant and Reflective Problem Solving checklists and why they work. These checklists will now be your go-to for solving any problems and making fearless decisions. In the following lessons, you’ll learn exactly how to use these valuable tools.
In this chapter, you’ll understand exactly why FEAR stops us in our tracks when we’re trying to solve problems—and how to get rid of that nasty F-word for good.
In this chapter, you’ll learn how the music group Radiohead used the reframe step of our checklist and made a fearless decision for their famous album "In Rainbows”.
Remember: the most important part of this course is that you practice, practice, practice! You’ll be constantly reminded of that—even to the point of being sick of hearing it! So do practice to get the most out of each chapter.
Lesson 2 is all about how to use the Instant Problem Solving Checklist, with the help of some new friends as examples. Mike and Jordan will give us examples of how to use the IPS checklist in the workplace so you can see what it looks like in action.
In this chapter, you’ll better understand steps one and two of the IPS checklist: breathe and clarify. You’ll go over the five steps of the IPS checklist and then learn why taking a deep breath is the first thing to do, as well as why clarifying the the most crucial thing to do.
In this chapter, you’ll learn about the vital reason for clarification in the Instant Problem Solving Checklist. Mike from from the first chapter of this lesson will show you what it looks like to clarify a task thrown at him, rather than jump right in to solve the problem.
In this chapter, you’ll learn why it’s terrible advice to "think outside the box" and instead better to “Think Inside the Triangle.” You’ll understand what B.A.D. in the Triangle stands for and why it’s useful for coming up with solutions to a problem or task. The B.A.D. Triangle will quickly become something you can use for any problem to solve or decision to make.
In this chapter, you’ll go through chapter three's situation with Mike, and this time he uses the B.A.D Triangle to come up with potential solutions to come to a decision about the task his boss has thrown at him. You’ll get to see the B.A.D. Triangle at work in a real-life scenario so you can use it for the next problem you must solve or decision you must make.
In this chapter, you’ll understand how to use Pre-mortem to figure out why your B.A.D. solutions have failed—like looking into the future before you have even solved a problem or made a decision. You’ll also see how Mike uses this step to come to the BEST solution for the task his boss threw at him earlier, so you can understand how to use Pre-mortem in your own life.
In this chapter, you’ll see how using all the steps in the Instant Problem Solving Checklist will naturally lead you to deciding fearlessly—but be warned! You MUST practice and use the checklist so you can continue to be a fearless decision maker.
It can’t be stressed enough in this course—you must practice, practice, practice! Especially in order to become a fearless decision maker, you MUST practice the steps in the checklist. At the end of the lesson, you’ll find more helpful resources to do…yes, you guessed it: practice!
In this chapter, you’ll be reintroduced to Reflective Problem Solving, along with its special step in the checklist: reframe. You’ll understand WHAT a reframe for a problem or task is, as well as WHY it’s so important to do, especially when you have more time to solve a problem or make a decision.
In this chapter, you’ll learn HOW TO reframe, which is step 3 of the RPS Checklist. You’ll be equipped with the exact tools for reframing so you can go and apply it right away and become a master reframer in no time.
In this chapter, you’ll see how Jordan used the Reflective Problem Solving Checklist to tackle a problem thrown at her by her boss. She goes through all the steps of the checklist in order to come to a solid solution and solve the problem given to her. With practice, you can do the same as Jordan.
What are the two P-words for success? You’ll just have to watch this chapter to find out! After this, there are more resources to be found so you can practice and apply what you’ve learned in this course, so do download them and take the time to do the exercises.
Do you know why it's so hard to solve problems and fearlessly make decisions? It's not because you lack critical or creative thinking skills. Nor is it because you lack life experience. And it's certainly not because you can't think outside the box. Science tells us it's hard to solve problems and make decisions because our brain gets in the way and sends us a not-so-useful thinking pattern, and we get stuck.
But good news! Science also tells us it's possible for us to grow new super useful and helpful brain tools...and that's what this course is all about. By the time you're finished with this course, you'll have two amazing checklists you can use as go-to tools to solve any problem and make a fearless decision. One checklist will help you make decisions very quickly; the other will help you when you have more time to think and reflect about the kind of decision you need to make for a more complex problem or task.
But why do we give you checklists? Because we've used science to create methods and steps for your brain to follow in order to unleash your inner creative thinker with ease. Even seasoned pilots who fly sophisticated jets in the air force use checklists!
I know you want to become a better problem solver and fearless decision maker, so join me and my friends as we take you on a learning journey where you'll become a better version of yourself!
