After her 2nd miscarriage and the death of her grandmother, Taquoya  felt the pressure of leading her youth group of over 135 youth, ministering and life in general. One night, as she was crying out to God about all the things that were happening, God said, "Press, prayer reaches every single situation". In one moment, God birthed a movement that has literally ministered to tens of thousands of people just from it's name alone.

The P.R.E.S.S. is not just a prayer course, it is about life, God and joining a community of prayer warriors in development. It is appropriate for young and old and has proven to be effective for those from elementary through older adults. We are so excited to have you as part of this class. The goal of this group is not just to teach you to pray, but to delve into the difficult questions that often seek to challenge us when we try to get closer to God. When God gave the mission to P.R.E.S.S., He gave a vision that would be three-fold:

1. We are to motivate ourselves to pray and then others.
2. Teach that He is a God who can handle any situation.
3. Recognize that the word "press" is also a verb which allows us to push back with force whatever is pushing us. Joining the PRESS is joining a group that will push back with you.

Talking to God is something we should do, but often we have challenges in doing so. Why should I talk to Him? Who is he? What makes him different from all the other gods I’ve heard of? Doesn’t He know what I’m thinking, wanting and needing anyway? These are the types of questions we will address in the P.R.E.S.S. clubs... and we will have a great time while doing it! Isn’t it wonderful to know that Jesus left a guideline to teach us how to pray. Before we dive into prayer; it is important that we understand and recognize who we are praying to. Jesus instructs us in Matthew 6 “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” (Holy Bible, KJV).

Lesson 2: Talk to Who?

When things are going well or we have a special occasion to celebrate, it is a lot easier to let people share in our happiness. You may have a party or simply feel more friendly and inviting when things are going well. When things are going poorly, we tend to be more introverted and only those close to us are we open enough with to let know what is going on, if anyone. The point is when you are hurting or when you are uncertain of yourself,it is hard to surrender. Yet, in prayer, on good days and bad, we must surrender to God. You have to learn you are safe enough to allow God to have his way. You are safe enough to surrender. He loves you and that makes you safe when you trust Him.“Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.”Jesus instructed his disciples to pray these words. Isn’t it wonderful that God will not barge his way into our lives? He will give us hints, send people our way, and even make life difficult for us. But ultimately we will have to choose. This portion of the prayer teaches us to invite God into our lives.

Children understand the word how to ask, and speak up for what they need. Children will ask for anything all day. Children do not have a limit as to how many questions can be asked and how many times. Children ask with the expectation there is an answer and the answer will be in their favor. Even when they are so little their words sound like jibberish and they don’t say everything “right”, they know how to ask. We can learn a valuable lesson from children when it comes to our prayer request or asking God for our needs. Remember God is not a genie and we do not only want to receive natural blessings. We should desire a relationship with God and know what touches us, God cares about. This lesson will address questions concerning asking God and to PRESS with expectancy!

Lesson 4: Ask, Seek, Knock

Forgiveness appears to be an unnatural action. Forgive someone who has done harm to you. Forgive someone who has hurt you or someone close to you. Forgive. Our society has twisted the real and true definition of forgiveness. Forgiveness is taught. Christ taught his disciples how and how many times to forgive. This suggest the disciples did not have previous knowledge or understanding of true forgiveness. Forgiveness is not an unnatural action it is an action that can be taught. This lesson provide the definition, answer questions and provide several examples of true biblical forgiveness.

Lesson 5: Forgivenes

Wait! Wait is not a word we are often fond of hearing. Whether we are at a restaurant, a stop light, lunch line, or at home watching commercials. Waiting is really a good thing. Have you ever been running late or waited to go somewhere and found out later you were so glad because you protected from harm? Waiting is not all bad. Waiting has so many benefits and this lesson teaches the benefits of waiting.

Lesson 6: Waiting on the Lord!

Prayer is important. It’s necessary. It is both a blessing and an opportunity but sometimes for most of us, prayer can be challenging. It’s not because God does not hear us or because God is difficult to talk to (He’s not!) but there are often obstacles or hindrances, things that get in the way of our attempts to reach God in prayer. There are also things that stop God from speaking to us.

Lesson 7: God, Will You Talk to Me?

Who told you you could do that? This is a question asked by parents, teachers, bosses and authoritative figures around the world on a daily basis. Sometimes you find yourself asking or doing something, that unless you have the right person’s permission, you are going to have trouble. With Jesus, his name also gives you authority to do some things and ask Him things that if you do not have His name, you may not have a right to ask or do (John 14:14, Col. 3:17). Simply put, there is power and authority in the name of Jesus. His name gives you access to all the things of God (Col. 2:9).

Lesson 8: What's In A Name?
