Description

Sustainability is a social goal for people to co-exist over a long period of time. Sustainability usually has three dimensions or pillars: environment, economic, and social. Many emphasize the environmental dimension. This can include addressing key environmental problems, including climate change and biodiversity loss. The idea of sustainability can guide decisions at the global, national, organizational, and individual levels. A related concept is that of sustainable development. Sustainable development goals, the aim of this global goals is peace and prosperity for people and the planet- while tackling climate change and working to preserve oceans and forest. The SDGS highlight the connection between the environment social and economic aspects of sustainable development. Sustainability is at the center of the SDGS as the term sustainable development implies.

The pandemic impacted all the 17 goals and emphasized the interconnectedness of global health economic, social and environmental challenges. Some regions, such as Asia, have experience significant setback during that time. The global effort for the SDGs calls for prioritizing environmental sustainability, understanding the indivisible nature of the goals and seeking synergies across sectors. With regards to political impact of the SDGs it has been observed that they have mainly influenced global and national debates. To use sustainable development goals in city planning integrate them into urban design by focusing on inclusivity, sustainability, and resilience, using data to guide evidence-based decisions. This involves promoting green infrastructure, efficient resource management, and sustainable transport while also fostering community participation and utilizing smart technology to improve livelihood.
