Welcome to the "Practical Steps to Overcoming Performance Anxiety" course! For the next hour or so, we will discuss some reasons for our performance anxieties, how we can deal with them, and how to fully prepare for life as a performer. By the end of the course you will have developed a unique pre-performance routine that works for you. I am so excited you are here. Let's get started!
Welcome to Lecture 2! In this lecture, we'll go over how the course is structured. You'll learn about the sections and lectures, and also what we'll be covering in the curriculum.
This audio lecture will remind you that there is a positive side of being anxious, and that we need to manage our anxiety so it can reach its optimum level, allowing us to perform at our best.
This is a review lecture for the main points of Section 1: Introduction to the Course.
In this lecture we will discuss what performance anxiety is, and how we can recognize the early symptoms. We will also discuss the need to change our mindset and embrace the challenge instead of being afraid of the threat.
In this lecture we go deeper into the positive and negative feedback loops created as we face each performance, and how we can control our reactions.
This short lecture introduces an essential element of our course: the need to choose our next performance challenges wisely in order to control our performance anxiety.
This is very cool lecture. We will discuss how to create your own self-talks in preparation for the next section, which digs deeper into the pre-performance routine.
This is a review lecture for the topics discussed in Section 2: Be True to Yourself. I will also give you some takeaways to immediately incorporate into your everyday pactice!
In section 3 we will discuss different approaches to become a healthy performer. In this first lecture of the section we will discuss the need to set specific goals for each performance, and be reasonable about them. One step at a time. We will also suggest a practical exercise that we can incorporate to your pre-performance routine.
In this lecture we will discuss diet, exercise, and rest in preparation for and on the day of your performance.
This lecture introduces us to an important practice, which we should embrace as much as possible, as it will allow us to work hard without exhausting our bodies.
Relaxation and breathing exercises are presented in this audio lecture. You can either listen to it as a lecture or a relaxation guide. Hope the music will help you relax and breathe!
Congratulations! This is the end of section 3: Take Care of Yourself, which is about being a healthy performer. In this lecture we will review the main points discussed in this section.
In this lecture we'll discuss what dream goals and practical goals are, and why performers should have both clear in our minds.
This is one of the main lectures of this course - creating your own pre-performance routine, with specific points to work on in the 4 different preparation areas.
A great way to practice is to do "test-runs". This lecture explains what they are and how to make the most of them.
You just finished Section 4. Good for you! Sections 2, 3 and 4 were about all kinds of great stuff you need to work on before your performance. Get ready - in section 5 we go on stage, it is performance time!
In this lecture we go over simple and effective ways to stay focused during our performance. Keep distractions off stage, and when they want to sneak in, be prepared to resume your focus with these easy to remember "resume your focus" exercises.
We all make mistakes in performance, beginners and professionals. The difference is how we deal with them on the spot. In this lecture we go over mental exercises to let errors go when we are on stage, and not let them distract us. Accepting mistakes is an important lesson to stay in the present and remain focused.
Congratulations! In this lecture we will review all the important points covered in section 5. We learned some great exercises, simple but powerful thoughts to help you stay focused on what is relevant and let errors go without getting distracted or letting them start a snowball effect!
We are now at the post-performance section. In this lecture we discuss how important it is to accept compliments, be gracious to the audience, and leave self-criticism and feedback to the day after. Right after the show it is time to congratulate yourself for what you did well!
This is a review of the main topics from Section 6: Celebrate each performance.
A wrap-up of the course with reminders of the importance of making these practical steps into habits for your life as a performer.
