Popping is a style of dance which many celebrity artists have tried to master.  Michael Jackson, Usher, and Justin Timerberlake, are just a few of the mega-star performers who have incorporated this unique dance style into their repertoire.

Besides the actual pop, the flexing and relaxing of the muscle, I believe the two other major elements of this dance is (1) timing or rhythm and (2) isolation of the movement.

Timing and rhythm is the most important aspect of any dance. We will work on timing of when to start a move and when to stop a move.

Isolation of movement is another key aspect of this course.  We will drill only the arms, the legs, neck, and waist.  Eventually, we will combine all of these elements into one routine.

We hope you will join us in this course.

We recommend training to slower clearer beats.  Beats that are over 110 beats per minutes are too fast for beginner poppers.  We like beats that have easily identifiable clap beats.  This allows us to be 100% sure that we are training to dance perfectly on beat.

How we dress and what we wear is also important when poppers dance.  In this video, I talk about what poppers wear and why we wear them.

The most important factor in this video is the shoes.  Poppers generally wear shoes that have slick bottoms.  This allows the poppers to pivot easily and smoothly.

Requirements

  • Students need to have the desire to learn to dance.
  • Students must be honest with practice sessions.
  • Students must come with a positive "never quit" attitude.
  • Students need to understand English because the instructions are given in English.
