Description

In this course, I will be teaching about how to plan a Balanced Diet for losing or gaining weight. I will be telling about the components of a successful diet plan. For planning a diet we need first to understand what is food, nutrition and nutrients. I will talk about the energy, its units, total energy requirement, total energy expenditure, and what are the various factors affecting them. I will talk about how to calculate BMI, and students will learn about the side effects of weight gain. Students will also learn about the practical aspects of Diet planning with examples.

Through this course students will:

  • learn to plan diet for weight management.

  • learn what are the basic requirements in planning a diet.

  • gain knowledge of the energy requirements of normal healthy adults.

  • learn about the tools to assess the total daily energy expenditure and intake.

  • know about the activities that expend more energy.

  • learn about the calorie dense and nutrient dense foods and about how foods are grouped in various groups.

  • learn use of RDAs & food exchange lists and then we will learn

  • practice to use the information gathered through the various assessment tools, to plan diet for weight management.

This course will help the students to be able to plan balanced diets for self and others, make required changes in their diet pattern and also know which foods can be exchanged for others for maximum benefits.
