I've used the same sketching tablet for almost 10 years and it still works great. The tools you use doesn't have to be expensive, here are some examples of digital sketching tablets.
Going from pen & paper to digital sketching can be tricky in the beginning. Here's one exercise to get warmed up with tablet sketching.
There are several ways to shade your design in Photoshop. In this lecture we are going to talk about two ways to do this. The first technique can be used both with pen & paper and in Photoshop, the second technique is way faster and more suited for digital sketching!
Sometimes when we use shading on top of a line drawing, it can get a bit messy with lines sticking out in all directions. Here's how to easily clean your sketch up using one single tool.
Highlights define the material of your design. Glossy surface equals strong and high contrast highlights while a matte surface doesn't reflect the light as much. In this lecture, we will talk about what to think about when adding highlights to our cube.
Using the selection tool or any one tool too much can sometimes result in a lifeless rendering. What I mean by that is it lacks personality. In this lecture, I'll walk you through one quick way I use to add my own touch to the rendering and make it less stale and more "sketchy".
When we create out shadow for the cube, we don't have to sketch out perspective lines of the precise location where the shadow will hit the ground. This is taught in every sketch tutorial anyway so in this video, I'll show you how I prefer to do it. Faster & definitely more fun!
Final exercise! Now we will add textures to our cube. Since we have already shaded the cube, all we have to do is "wrap" the texture around it, get it right in perspective and we are all set. Don't worry, I'll show you each step in detail so you can follow along.
Hi, I’m Marouane and welcome to my course Photoshop for Designers, part 1.
This is a beginners course and the first course in a series of courses to come that will help you understand product design sketching in Photoshop better.
In this first course, we are going to be covering the basics such as what tools to use when sketching digitally, how to fire up your creative side of the brain in a matter of minutes.
I’m also going to show you two ways of shading in Photoshop and we are going to practice this using a simple cube that will follow us along throughout the course.
As a final step in this class, we are going to jump into texturing. We are going to use the cube we create in this class as an example and add different textures to it such as wood, fabric and metal and I’m going to show you a trick that will speed up the process and make it look really cool.
Thank you for you interest in my class, now let’s get started!
