Making the switch from taking photos with your phone to using a camera requires some changes. Phone cameras make it easy to take snapshot images. To use a camera well, you need to control it and understand how to take great photos. Using a camera is so much more fun and the quality of your photos will improve dramatically ... once you know what you're doing.
Like any new piece of technology you acquire, a modern camera is a complicated piece of equipment. It will appear confusing at first. But you can always flip it into full auto mode and click away. This will not make you a great photographer! To take the best photos possible and have the most fun possible, you need to learn to control your camera. By doing so, you can give more creative expression to your photography.
Learning to manage your camera well is not as difficult as you may think at first. With the help of this course, you'll be understanding and managing your camera in less than one month. Without a little help, the controls on your camera will frustrate you and limit your ability to take great photos. As I said, you can always use the auto controls, but this will limit the potential for what you can get from your camera.
When you understand the controls and how to use them, then you are free to be truly creative with your photography. Once you are comfortable and confident with your camera, then you'll begin to take breathtaking photographs. And you will absolutely love doing this.
Before you start filling your social media with photos that will attract more attention than ever, you must first study and practice. Take a little time to learn how to manage your camera controls and understand how it makes pictures. Then you can delve further into the creative aspects of photography and making fabulous pictures.
We'll start you off with the basics, like how to hold your camera well. Some of these things might seem insignificant, but they are not. If you're not holding your camera well, this will lead to technical issues with your photos. They will be blurry. And you cannot fix a blurry photo. So learning to hold your camera well is the first essential lesson you'll learn.
Don't worry, if you find this too basic, the lessons are all short and easy to consume. You can also loop back and watch any of them again if you didn't catch all the details. I've designed this course to be easy to complete. You'll experience all the practical exercises needed to help you best implement what you're learning.
As the course continues, you'll learn about the other essential camera controls and how to manage them. The most imperative of these are learning to focus well and how to manage setting your exposure.
Focusing well is so important, because if you get it wrong, you can't fix it later. There is currently no way to fix an out of focus photo after you've taken it. This is why you must learn how to focus well. Even using your camera's auto focus tools, it's still possible to take photos with a camera where the wrong part of the photo is in focus. In this course you'll learn how to focus on what's most important.
Exposure control as also essential to learn well if you want to take the best possible photos. Unlike focus, you can do a lot of work when you edit your photos if they are not well exposed. But knowing how to set the exposure settings to capture an image the way you want it to look produces far better results. Patching up an underexposed or overexposed photo later is never the best. In this course you'll have a lot to learn and practice on how understand light and how to set your exposures well.
This course contains 30 lessons and practical exercises designed to get you started using your camera. I focus on the differences you can expect between using your phone and your camera to take photos. No matter what camera you use, taking photos happens the same way. Light enters the camera (or phone camera) through a lens. The right amount of light must enter to record a well-exposed photograph with the camera's sensor. With your phone, this process is automated and generally produces bland, uncreative results. Using your camera you can control the light, timing, focus, composition, and more. With this course, I'll teach you all about how to enjoy doing this.
I've been taking photos since I was a teenager, most of my working career I've been a professional photographer. I also have many years of experience teaching. I've taught both new and experienced photographers about their cameras and the craft of photography. You'll see how I work when I'm demonstrating the practical exercises that accompany every lesson. Each exercise has a .pdf document to help guide you through what to do to complete it.
I designed this course so you can complete it in one month and change your photography experience in just a short amount of time. Each lesson is short and concentrates on a single topic. There's a clearly explained practical exercise with each lesson. Take as long or as little time as you like to complete the exercise and you're sure to experience growth and development in your photography. You'll see the results in the photos you're taking. You'll easily retain what you learn and put it into practice every time you use your camera.
