Your two best friends in the Windows environment.
In this lesson we go over the basics of simple hardware malfunctions: mouse, keyboard, or monitor. If not a layer-2 issue (loose or damaged cables), updating the driver can fix the problem. So can uninstalling and reinstalling the device through the device manager. Disabling and enabling also works. But if a device still doesn't work, replacing it is the best and fastest option--especially in an enterprise environment--because such items are inexpensive to replace and allow the user to get back to work.
Although Windows Support Specialist are not always responsible for computer repairs or upgrades, sometimes this job includes being part of a Help Desk team that participates in such tasks. So, I have included these two additional lessons addressing this.
In this continuation of the previous lesson, we look at the symptoms of failing or failed hard drives and RAM, and we learn about the options we have for repair, replacements, and upgrades.
This is probably the most common issue you will deal with as a Windows Support Specialist: the user complains of slow PC performance. In this short lesson I will teach you step-by-step which questions to ask and how to easily resolve this super common issue.
In this short break from the lecture format, I teach you the arp -a command and why is such a useful tool for troubleshooting.
Here we look at Outlook and DDE.
Setting default apps, deleting devices and apps you don't use anymore, defragging disks, and emptying trash to increase performance.
Network issues may also arise. However, sometimes the issue is not network related. In this lesson I teach you how to investigate and resolve these issues.
A brief lesson on how Dynamic Host Control Protocol (DHCP) functions to assign IP addresses to devices.
In this video I will teach you useful query commands you can use to troubleshoot a PC and a network. This is part 1 of 2 and contains the basic query commands. Note: Remember to open your Windows command console in "run as administrator" because you will need that elevate permission to issue some commands.
Setting the DNS on a Windows PC is a task you might do during a PC provisioning (like when a new employee is hired). In this lesson we learn about DNS and how to set it up as either automatic or as designated.
Allowing users to remote into their PCs is an important and convenient feature. Let's learn how to set that up and begin learning how to make our own Windows tools for repairing and restoring the operating system, and the user's files and profile.
Speaking of backing up files, in this lesson we learn a clear and direct way to accomplish a user's profile backup.
In this section we continue to learn how to make tools and backups. Also, make sure to download the PDF for a step-by-step guide showing you how to Image a PC's or laptop's running configuration. This will guide you through the process flawlessly.
We learn the best Windows 10 repair and restoration procedures.
