Explore basic pattern drafting in CLO3D, covering vocabulary, pattern creation methods, essential symbols, body types and measurements, and comfort allowances for drafting base patterns.
Explore CLO3D's main navigation and tools to streamline pattern drafting for skirts and simple culotte pants.
CLO updates streamline your workflow with a moved library, new quick access, improved fabric previews, connect assets, official garments, and relocated colorways and UV editors for easier 3D export.
Draft the skirt's main rectangle in CLO3D using hip circumference plus ease, halved. Set AB as length, then add the EF line and GH hip line, annotate front and back.
Trace the front and back skirt pieces with the trace tool, clean extraneous lines, and unfold symmetric pattern editing with sewing to sew the darts.
Create the main rectangle for culottes using the skirt’s waist-to-hip measurements, with 70 cm length and 50 width, then add the hip line.
Draft the crotch line in CLO3D by marking OP and O1 P1, offsetting 10 cm from the hip line, and shaping with 45-degree internal lines and curves.
Adjust the waistline by lowering the front and extending the back, smooth the dart points, and shape the hip curve for a refined culotte block.
Trace the front and back skirt pieces with the trace tool, then unfold symmetric edits and sew the pieces together. Adjust fabric, simulate, and refine darts and waist ease.
In this short course, we will be drafting a skirt and simple culottes from scratch using CLO3D software. These base patterns are necessary to start creating your own modifications and designs on the pattern. Check also our other courses for a fitted and simple bodice block pattern with sleeves! Keep an eye on the Fashion Innovators Academy Courses as we will also add a new modifications course very soon!
The course will start with a basic lecture about pattern making, body types and how to take measurements. Also, a few videos of learning the main navigation and tools of CLO3D are included in the course. But do not worry, no steps are skipped in the videos and all tools that are used are explicitly explained on the go.
All instructions are also included as course materials so it is easier to follow and iterate the process later on with your measurements.
IMPORTANT! You can also follow the same steps when drawing your pattern on paper. You can also do both, check the fit in the real-life pattern and then make necessary changes in CLO.
You can later reiterate the process with your measurements.
No former fashion or CLO3D experience is needed.
