Instructor
Broderick Wong's artistic journey started in Manila with a degree in Marketing from De La Salle University. He found himself deep in Learning and Development as a Management Trainer and while he liked what he did, it wasn't what he loved. In 2009, he left his job to pursue art by enrolling in a basic 3D animation and multimedia course. Eight thousand hours and 1 demo reel later, he abandoned it. Although it was art, there was still something missing. Between 2010 and 2014, he specialized in black and white, graphite Character Portraits.
In 2015, he had discovered watercolors. His journey started with teaching himself the basics. When he reached a decent enough level, he took a few workshops (5 to this date) to enhance his knowledge and skills as a painter. In that process, he had discovered so much about himself, about life and who he was as an artist.
His impressionistic style of watercolors have not only been shown in group exhibitions in Metro Vancouver but in Italy at the 2019 Fabriano in Acquarello International Exhibition as one of the representing artists for Canada (where his painting was further juried into the Fabriano Watercolor Museum) and 2020 Fabriano in Acquarello International Conference as international artist under the Italy Group and demonstrated a painting for the on line demonstration portion of the festival.
Broderick is also an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists and the International Watercolor Society (Canada). His mission is to bring watercolors to as many people as he can through his well attended live workshops, and now, his Watercolor Painting For Beginners online course so they too can experience the magic and joy of painting with water and color.
"Art to me is a reflection of the self. Each painting that I do has a meaningful message or story to be shared whether they are of animals, places or people. There are lots of things to take inspiration from yet the dizzying pace of life as we know it will always get in the way. My art has allowed me to experience moments where all I can be, is just be. Present. If we can find more of these moments, we would be reminded to slow down, appreciate and cherish the one life we have and the world around us with a different set of eyes.
I will always be enchanted by the purity, allure and simplicity of this medium. What a privilege it is to have discovered my passion in it. We’ve all dabbled with watercolors growing up, now allow me to re-introduce you to the fun art of Water & Color."
