Here are a few encouraging words from Nicola about the objectives of this painting process.
It's not about the finished painting, it's about experimenting and trying something different....and enjoying the process.
Have fun, love Nicola
Welcome to this bright, colourful, loose and fun painting process.
I am going to show you three different ways of painting this subject by painting:
This will show you how you can approach your paintings in another way. It should also help you loosen up and be a little more flexible. In the resources I have posted some photos of sunflower to help you and some other paintings, plus the colour palette
I have also posted a PDF called 'Paint and Play, why it's important' which I would like you to read please.
In this first painting we will be painting on a pre-painted sheet of paper. By this I mean I have painted very light washes in the appropriate colours to give a ground on which to find shapes.
So you look at he pale background and see if you can find any shapes that you can painting into.
Here we will do a similar painting, but this time we will paint onto blank dry paper. Trust yourself to be able to do it. No drawing first.

This time I am going to wet the paper with clean water just before we start painting, a bit at a time.
We are now going to do a field of sunflowers. Remember this is playing with you paints and water. That's the most important part the outcome is whatever it turns out to be. A great way of relaxing and getting to know more about your paints.
Here I will show you how to progress further in this wet and loose style. I hope you will continue to enjoy playing with the paints and continue to explore new methods.
Please share your painting with us all as it encourages all of us. Many thanks Nicola

This painting process gives you the opportunity to explore painting in a very loose and wet style, WITHOUT DRAWING FIRST.
Going through this painting process, and it doesn't matter what they look like at the end, will help build your CONFIDENCE. Just relax and have fun as you loosen up with big and bold brush strokes playing with watercolour paints.
Remember it's all about PROGRESS not PERFECTION.
REVIEW- 'Sunflowers are one of my favorite things to paint so I really enjoyed learning three different ways to paint. Lectures are very clear and easy to follow.' Diane
Stop sweating over the small details and let your creativity simply flow. Using bold and big brush strokes, lots of water and vivid colours in this series of sunflower paintings which will loosen you up and help you paint with spontaneity.
Learn to trust yourself that you can paint with out drawing first. Trust yourself that you can get images out of your head and trust yourself to just play without concerning yourself with the end product. I give you a few ideas, then it's up to you to play around with more painting of these amazing flowers
