Here's a short overview of some of the techniques you can use to create texture in watercolor. We look at scraping in and scraping out, resists, spattering, sponging and drybrush. These are some of the skills you will need to practice for the following exercises, and they are tools that you will find useful to enhance your paintings with texture.
Bricks have a rough texture and the older they are the more worn and cracked they can become. They make a fascinating study just on their own. I'll show you a simple method of painting bricks in just four stages.
Let’s now paint a picture which includes both bricks and stones, using the techniques we have learned. I’ve added in a window for further interest.

Use the techniques you learned to paint shiny and dull surfaces as we paint a copper kettle and a brass bucket. See how easy it is to create the texture and material of these two metal surfaces.
