Description

The PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC) is the gateway to becoming a professional scuba diving instructor with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), the world’s leading scuba training organization .

What this course includes: Realistic Theory Practice Exams. These are NOT the official exam questions but if you know the content in these practices tests you should confidently clear the official exam. This test series focuses on the domains:

  • Physics

  • Physiology

  • Equipment

  • Recreational Dive Planner

  • General Skills & The Environment

What the IDC Includes

The IDC is divided into two main components:

  • Assistant Instructor (AI) Course: Teaches foundational teaching skills and prepares you to assist with scuba instruction.

  • Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) Program: Builds on the AI course and prepares you to independently teach PADI courses.

Most candidates complete both parts and then attend the Instructor Examination (IE) — a two-day evaluation that tests your knowledge, skills, and teaching ability in classroom, confined water, and open water settings.

Requirements to Enrol

To join the IDC, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old

  • Be a certified PADI Divemaster (or equivalent)

  • Have at least 60 logged dives (100 required to attend the IE)

  • Have completed Emergency First Response (CPR and First Aid) training within the past 24 months

  • Be a certified diver for at least 6 months

Why It Matters

Becoming a PADI Instructor means you can:

  • Teach all core PADI courses — from Open Water Diver to Divemaster

  • Work at dive centres and resorts around the world

  • Share your passion for the ocean while earning a living doing what you love

If you're dreaming of a career that blends adventure, travel, and teaching, the PADI IDC is your launchpad. This course is created to prepare you for the theory part of the course and should be completed BEFORE you begin the IDC. I cannot stress this enough.

Do not wait to do these practice exams until you are in the program.
