Description

Hello and welcome to this ORIFICE PLATE training course for hydrocarbon flow metering measurement systems.

Orifice plates are used in pipelines to measure product flow rate and also as a restriction to reduce pipeline pressure. This training module will be about flow rate measurement on gas custody transfer metering systems.

The scope of this module will explain

a) why we use the office plate

b) differential pressure flow meter

c) tapping ports and the instrument locations

d) reference plane of measurement

e) instrument corrections

f) orifice plate specification

g) orifice plate measurement envelope

h) effect of damage to the office plate and

i) routine maintenance validations.

The complete presentation of this course includes a further four training modules, they are

a) Flow Algorithms

b) Orifice Carriers

c) Gas Characteristics and

d) Metering Instruments

The Flow Equation module will explain algorithms, the Bernoulli equation, in-compressible and compressible flow, discharge coefficient, expansibility and comparisons between the international standards ISO 5167 and AGA3...The carrier module will show the fixtures that hold the plates, the procedures to install and remove them...The Characteristics module explains pure gas versus gas mixture, ideal versus real gas, natural gas composition, compressibility AGA8 American gas association report 8, compressibility, molar mass, density, relative density, base density, specific gravity, heating value inferior and superior and the wobbi index...The Metering Instruments module will show Flow Computer, Differential Pressure Transmitters, Density Transducer, Pressure Transmitter, Temperature Element or Transmitter, Gas Chromatograph, Relative Density (Specific Gravity) Analyzer, Automatic Sampler, Water Content / Dew-point analyzer and Hydrogen Sulphide Analyzer...I suggest you consider continue study on these further 4 modules to complete this orifice plate course training.

My name is Tony Bourne, I have 40 years experience working in flow measurement , from technician working in the field to a consultant advisor. I can help you better your knowledge and further your career prospects, by teaching you this, and further subjects on flow measurement. There are currently a further 100 + training courses that may be of interest to you, on liquid and gas flow measurement now being modified for Udemy upload, they include subjects such as uncertainty, allocation, loss control, multiphase, lng,  well testing, system design and many more. You can view all the training course videos being prepared by downloading the Training School pdf from the course resources page, and by watching the free to view videos here. Should you require a course urgently, let me know by email shown at the end of the course, I can prepare this for you.

So why do we need so much specification on orifice plates, well the oil, gas and condensate are valuable products, so their quantity and quality is measured at metering locations both onshore and offshore. The metering systems are measured as accurately as possible to ensure all those buying and selling are  satisfied with the reported volume, mass and energy values. I do hope you will enjoy watching this video training course on orifice plates.

Who this course is for:

  • Technicians, Engineers, Operators, Maintenance, Accounting, Commercial and Management persons involved in Flow Measurement liquid or gas, interested in learning about orifice measurement and designing their own systems will appreciate this course
