Welcome to Optimize Your Resume: A masterclass in resume construction!
Please note that I've purposefully tailored this coarse to reach a very broad audience, because let's face it -- we all need stellar resumes in the current job market! It begins with the fundamental basics of resume writing and ends with detailed discussions of your future employer's expectations!
This course begins with a broad overview of resume basics (What is a resume? Why do I need a resume?), and quickly transitions to a discussion on all the forms a resume can take. We introduce and compare multiple resume formats of fictional applicants, discussing the pros and cons of each format so you can decide which format is best for you!
Third, we take a moment to discuss readability, font, and other aspects of our writing. Although this portion is a discussion of aesthetics, we want everything working in our favor when it comes to our job applications.
Fourth, we dive into the meat and potatoes of the resume -- how to write a resume. Here, we discuss a method that I use to write my resume, bullet point by bullet point. We discuss how to write efficient, effective, and exact bullet points while keeping the reader engaged. This segues into a discussion about You, the applicant. In this discussion, we focus on how our personalities come across on the page, particularly through the lens of sounding confident and presenting our 'soft skills' hand-in-hand with our technical capabilities.
In section 6, I walk through a number of Resources -- many of them free! -- that we can utilize to enhance our resume and put our best foot forward every time we submit our resume to a job opening.
