Piano for the Absolute Beginner
What you'll learn
- The course is divided up into 22 lessons. 10 of the lessons cover must-have music concepts and the other 12 lessons will teach the student step by step how to play songs such as uptown funk, fur elise, eye of the tiger, and many more.
- By the end of the course, students will understand the following concepts: the proper way to play the piano, finger naming convention, high and low sounds, overall structure and pattern of the keyboard, note names of the black and white keys, whole step/ half step, and how to form and play the C major scale.
Requirements
- Complete beginners are encouraged to take the course. Prior experience is not necessary. In addition, you can use a piano or any size keyboard.
Description
In this course, instructor Louis Jones will teach the basic concepts that are necessary to play the piano. This course is designed for the adult and/or child beginner pianist. The instructor will slowly guide the student through each section and song. As a result, students will be able to understand the "music language" and be able to quickly learn songs.

Instructor
Louis Jones has over 20 years of experience playing and teaching music. He has traveled across the states performing and opening for various artists such as Jonathan Butler and Donnie McClurklin. Mr. Jones studied classical piano with Patricia King and studied jazz piano with Harry Appleman at Montgomery College. He received his B.S. degree from High Point University.
His musical influences range from Mozart to Oscar Peterson. He plays the piano, guitar, bass, drums, and the Hammond organ. He currently serves as the Director of Music at a local church. Mr. Jones performs regularly throughout the DC metro area as a studio session musician, music director, and accompanist.
