Hi, my name is Rob and here I am going to explain what you are going to be able to achieve and accomplish in this course.
I do hope you find this course interesting and it helps you understand how to create an oil painting from scratch.
In this video, I will be showing you how to create the skyline, which is basically your first layer when creating your oil painting.
Please note: you do not need to match the colours I am using exactly, you can mix and match your own colours for your own desired effect.
Here in this next layer I show you how to create the mountain shape and block it in as a base colour so we will be ready to add our mid tones and highlights.
In this clip I will be adding some mid tones to the base colour of the mountain to start to bring a bit more life to the mountain.
Here I will be adding some highlights to the mountain and this will help give a bit more depth to the mountain overall.
In this clip, I will be blending together all the mid tones and highlights, this will soften the image and take away the harsh brush marks.
In this next layer I will be adding some distant trees in front of the mountain.
As there is going to be some water in the form of a lake in the for ground, we need to put a similar colour down so it represents the reflection.
As we are having some water in the for ground then we are going to have to have a reflection of the distant trees to help bring more depth to the image.
In the next layer we are going to be having some bushes and trees on the left hand side of the painting, so we need to block in a base colour ready for our mid tones and highlights.
Similar to the previous clip, but this time we are blocking in some base colour for the trees on the right hand side.
Here, we bring a bit more roundness to the trees by adding some mid tones to the trees on the left hand side.
This is basically a repeat of the previous clip but this time we are adding the mid tones to the trees on the right hand side.
Here in this next layer, we are blocking in a base colour in the foreground.
Here we are laying down some highlights over the base colour for the bushes on the left hand side.
Adding the highlights to the bushes on the right hand side will help with the composition and bring a more overall depth to the whole painting.
In this clip we are adding some overall highlights and also some tree trunks to the painting, this helps bring more shape and effect to the trees and the image as a whole.
In this clip we add some ground areas around the shoreline, this helps separate the land from the water.
This clip is where I change the reflection in the water to a darker colour as I wasn't happy with the way it looked. This is why you should always sit back and look at your painting before you proceed to the next part. I also hep bring the water to life by adding some water lines into the lake.
In this clip I am just finalising the painting by adding some finishing touches. These additional touches will help give that extra bit of realism and life to the painting.
This is a list of all materials that I used in the production of this painting.
Please note: you can still create a painting using fewer materials than shown. Only by practising will you become more comfortable with your own style and realise what you can create using limited supplies.
