Description

This oil painting course is an ideal starting point for beginners who want to learn the fundamentals of oil painting. The course will cover various classical techniques and concepts essential for aspiring artists.

The first technique that will be covered is Grisaille painting, which involves painting in shades of gray, often used as an underpainting for a final color painting. Using a sphere as an exercise, this course will teach you how to create depth and volume in your paintings through the use of shadows and highlights.

The second technique is Chiaroscuro, a technique that uses strong contrasts of light and dark to create a sense of depth and drama in a painting. The course will teach you how to use this technique to create a sense of three-dimensionality in your paintings. You will learn how to create the illusion of light and shadow using a 9-value scale.

In addition, you'll learn how to use a limited as well as an extended palette to create a full still-life painting from observation. You'll work with a traditional Flemish technique that involves building up the paint layers in sequences, allowing you to explore, glazing and Velatura paint application.

Throughout the course, you will also learn about the materials and tools you need for oil painting and basic color theory. You will have the opportunity to learn through step-by-step detailed demonstrations  By the end of the course, you will have a solid foundation in the basics of oil painting and be well on your way to creating beautiful, expressive paintings.
