    Introduction session:

Creating a family collage can have several positive impacts on you as a parent:

Creating your family collage will help you to reflect on past achievements and happy moments as a parent. Memory allows us to relive an experience which promotes the same amount of serotonin experienced during the actual event. Gratitude reminds us we are valued and boosts serotonin.

Emotional Connection: Assembling a collage allows parents to reflect on cherished memories and milestones, strengthening their emotional bond with family members.

Sense of Accomplishment: Completing a creative project like a collage can provide a sense of achievement and pride, boosting a parent's self-esteem.

Stress Relief: Engaging in a creative activity can be a great way to relax and reduce stress, offering a break from daily routines and responsibilities.

Family Unity: The process of selecting and arranging photos can remind parents of the love and support within their family, fostering a sense of unity and togetherness.

Legacy and Storytelling: A collage can serve as a visual story of the family's journey, allowing parents to share their history and values with their children.

  • Session 1: Reflecting on who we are as parents12:51

Benefits of knowing your Nurturing Young Minds presenters:

Enhanced Learning Environment: Build a positive relationship with your presenters, to create a supportive and comfortable atmosphere while participating in Nurturing Young Minds.

Better Communication: Trust allows open communication. By knowing your presenters better, you’re more likely to express your thoughts, ask questions and be open to growth.

Psychological theories support the benefits of reflecting on your parenting style:

Attachment Theory: Proposed by John Bowlby, this theory emphasizes the importance of a secure parent-child bond. Reflecting on your parenting can help you understand and strengthen this bond, promoting your child’s emotional security1.

Social Learning Theory: Albert Bandura’s theory suggests that children learn behaviours through observation and imitation. By reflecting on your parenting, you can model positive behaviours and attitudes for your child2.

Self-Determination Theory: This theory, developed by Deci and Ryan, focuses on the importance of autonomy, competence, and relatedness. Reflecting on your parenting can help you support your child’s intrinsic motivation and psychological well-being3.

Ecological Systems Theory: Urie Bronfenbrenner’s theory highlights the multiple environmental systems that influence a child’s development. Reflecting on your parenting helps you understand how your actions within these systems impact your child4.

Family Systems Theory: This theory views the family as an interconnected system. Reflecting on your parenting can improve family dynamics and relationships, leading to a healthier family environment5.

Behavioural Theory: B.F. Skinner’s theory emphasizes the role of reinforcement and punishment in shaping behaviour. Reflecting on your parenting can help you use positive reinforcement effectively to encourage desirable behaviours in your child1.

These theories provide a framework for understanding how reflective parenting practices can enhance both your well-being and your child’s development.

Answering a questionnaire about your parenting can offer several psychological benefits:

Self-Reflection: It encourages you to reflect on your parenting style, strengths, and areas for improvement. This self-awareness can lead to more intentional and effective parenting.

Stress Reduction: Identifying stressors and understanding your emotional responses can help in managing stress better. Knowing what triggers stress allows you to develop coping strategies1.

Improved Parent-Child Relationship: By assessing the dynamics of your relationship with your child, you can identify areas that need attention and work towards strengthening your bond1.

Emotional Intelligence: Understanding your emotional responses and how they affect your parenting can enhance your emotional intelligence, leading to better communication and empathy with your child1.

Personal Growth: It provides an opportunity for personal growth by highlighting areas where you can improve and offering insights into how to become a better parent1.

Mental Health Awareness: It can help in identifying any underlying mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression, that might be affecting your parenting. Early identification allows for timely intervention and support1.
