Notary Public Crash Course

Welcome to your Notary Crash Course! Here is a brief introduction to the importance of notary training, my reason for creating this course, and how training is most beneficial to the notary industry.

Here, we clear up a few common myths and misconceptions about the notary industry. There is an idea floating around that you can't really make a living as a notary public, but that is not the case. We'll discuss those myths, and shed some light on these ideas.

Here, we'll learn the general process of how to become a commissioned notary public. We'll discuss where to find relevant training, state exams, and general business registration tips.

Here, we'll go over a few of the mandatory notary supplies that are required to successfully get the job done. We'll also discuss a few additional supplies that I learned were beneficial in the field. There's also a link available to purchase your supplies, as well. 

Here, we'll discuss the best practices to schedule your notary appointments. It is very important that we are able to successfully book our clients and keep our calendar full, so that we may enjoy a successful notary business. This section includes a tutorial on how to book a notary appointment over the phone, and a free site that you can use to allow your clients to book you.

Here, we will learn how to charge notary fees. There is a common misconception that you are to charge one fee per notary stamp. This practice is incorrect and essentially cheats the notary out of their fair share of their notary fees. We'll also discuss how to charge gas and mileage as a mobile notary.

Here, we'll go over the most crucial part of the notary signing: Identifying the signer. It is imperative that we do this correctly to ensure that we minimize fraud and limit any notary liability. We also discuss how to navigate the topic of gender identity.

Here, we go over the proper way to complete your notary journal. We cover everything from what information to collect from the signer's I.D. to whether or not you need to collect a fingerprint. We also discuss the differences between the "Modern Journal of Notarial Events" and the "Notary Public Record Book." This section also includes practice pages that can be used to hone your skills.
