  • The Mind- Conscious and Sub-Conscious18:17

    CONSCIOUS & UN CONSCIOUS MIND

NLP has a characteristic approach to the conscious and unconscious mind (unlike other system of psychology)

    Conscious Mind:

Do you know you have a conscious mind that…Everything that is in present moment awareness.

    • Can hold 7 ± 2 chunks of information

    • Works sequentially (step by step)

    • Thinks logically

    • Functions linearly

    • Asks, “WHY?”

    • Operates while you are awake

    • Analyzes

    • Attends to information

    • Has limited focus

    • Domain of language

    • Like to be deliberate

    • Voluntary movements

    • Aware of now

    • Tries to understand the problem

    • Is outcome oriented

    And you have an

    Unconscious mind…

Your unconscious: A container of for many thoughts, feelings/emotions, resources, beliefs, possibilities.

    your unconscious

    • Maintains your behavior

    • Does not process negatives

    • Organizes your perceptions

    • Takes everything personally

    • Is what you are not aware of

    • Uses and responds to symbols

    • Works on the principle of least effort

    • Maintains instincts and generate habits

    • Needs repetition until a habit is installed

    • Protects you in the best way unconscious knows

    • Is programmed to continually seek more and more

    • Generates, stores, distributes and transmits “energy”

    • Represses memories with unresolved negative emotions

    • Does all that you need to be alive…the best way unconscious knows

    • Contains your memories, emotions, thoughts, feelings, and resources

    • All change takes place at the unconscious level then we become aware of it

    • Beats your heart, keeps you breathing…keeps you alive the best way you know how

  • Pillars of NLP25:04

The six basic principles on which neuro-linguistic programming is based on are known as the pillars of NLP.

    1.You

You are the center of NLP's activity. Any NLP intervention is focused on you and getting you to achieve the best results. Its success depends just as much on how resourceful and skillful you are as much as the models and skills that the NLP practitioner uses.

    2.Outcome.

Any NLP intervention focuses on an outcome. One of the basic things is being clear about what should be achieved and being able to define from the other person's viewpoint what goal is to be reached. Every single action in NLP is formed around an outcome that is to be achieved

    3.Rapport.

The relationship established is crucial to achieving the right results. Mutual trust and respect are needed, as understanding and respecting the way another person perceives the world and reacts to different stimuli is essential for good communication. A good rapport will determine others to feel acknowledged and be more responsive to your words. Some can build rapport instantly, but in other instances, time is required to establish trust and an effective rapport.

    4.Feedback

Acquiring information from the other person is also essential. Every step is based on what the previous one has achieved and feedback gathered. Accurate feedback relies on paying attention to all senses: looking at, listening to and feeling what is happening after each of your intervention.

    5.Flexibility

The path to achieving the desired goal is rarely an easy one. Often enough, the first approach is not the right one, so flexibility is needed to go around a problem and find the most precise way of dealing with an issue. Flexibility relies on choices - the more you have, the greater the chances of succeeding when faced with an obstacle.

    6.The presuppositions.

These are the guidelines of NLP, ideas and beliefs that are taken for granted. Every NLP action is based on them and they are not disputed.

    Presuppositions of NLP

We discussed before this topic  the pillars of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and how it works within the coaching model. These principles are the foundation of the NLP modality, however, in order to grow in your understanding of the NLP process, it is important to dig just a little bit deeper and move past the basic to uncover some of the major presuppositions of NLP.

We refer in (ITMBS) coaching model to these presuppositions as assumptions.

Understanding and embracing these assumptions offers an important starting point for communication, and helps to encourage the evolution of the coaching process. It important to remember that there are always exceptions to these points, but they offer a good cornerstone for understanding.

The presuppositions of NLP are neither rules nor regulations, and we do not even claim them to be true! They are simply very useful and powerful beliefs to have. Remember, NLP does not concern itself with whether something is true or not, but rather focuses on attaining a desired outcome (our own stories about our lives are sometimes made up from fragmented memories).
