Have you ever felt flat and wished you didn't? If you have then you are like most other people. You have also felt great before ! Matt explains that the issue isn't how you feel, but rather knowing how to evoke new empowering states when you want or need to. Matt explains the fact that this course is deisigned to teach you how to apply NLP to yourself and in working with others.

  • NLP Anchoring : What is NLP1:46

Where did NLP come from? in this section Matt covers a brief overview of what NLP is as well as bit of history about NLP and how it came to be.We talk about Richard Bandler and John Grinder to co founders of NLp and discuss how the roots of NLP stem from Transformational Grammar and the work of Virginia Satir. Reference is made to the Meta Model and a broad brush definition of NLP is provided

  • NLP Anchoring : Why Learn about Anchoring5:01

So why would you want to learn about NLP ? In the section, matt discusses a number of reasons why NLP anchoring is so popular and useful in both business and personal lives. Can you imagine how much more productive you would be if you were always working at your peak? Have you ever found yourself wishing you could calm down? or on the flip side get motivated!? Anchoring gives you power over your state and puts you in charge of how you feel.
Anchoring allows you to be the guardian of your state and emotions. After studying this lecture you will realise that no-one can MAKE you feel in any way at all . Would you like to be in charge of your own state ? imagine that !
Matt touches on Internal Representations, the way in which we perceive the outside world.

  • NLP Anchoring : A Word on Sensory Acuity1:33

Sensory acuity is the study of the minute micro physiological changes that occur in an individual constantly. These changes in physiology are directly linked to our state and our internal representations.Sensory Acuity is a core skill in NLP and one that you will use all the time and is a useful skill to develop whether you use it in NLP or not. Anchoring is one of the skills that uses sensory acuity.. In anchoring we need to know when someones internal representations have changed and we do this by observing small changes in their physiology.

  • NLP Anchoring: A Note on The NLP Communication Model2:48

Everything we believe to be real is in fact a generalised 'version' of reality & not reality itself. We delete distort and generalise our experience based on our filters. In this section Matt describes ho we interpret our experiences.

  • NLP Anchoring : A Word on Peripheral Vision2:18

In NLP we need to be able to spot changes in physiology to determine when a client's Internal Representations have changed. And the best way to do this is by using Peripheral vision . When using it we go into something called the Learning state where the unconscsious mind takes in information easily. Matt shows you how to go into peripheral vision.

  • NLP Anchoring: What Exactly is Anchoring ?2:26

Matt provides a definition for NLP Anchoring and breaks it down into a simple way of remembering it.
Anchoring has been around forever we may just not have been aware that that is what they are. Mat gives an example of a traffic signal to demonstrate how an anchor produces or triggers behaviour unconsciously.
Anchoring can produce a particular behaviour or can evoke an emotional response. Matt touches on the NLP communication model and describes how behaviour is changed when the state and physiology is changed.

  • NLP Anchoring : A word on Rapport2:17

Rapport is the process of matching and mirroring and could be considered the basis of all effective communication. IN this section Matt gives a broad brush overview of what Rapport is in NLP and why it is useful in anchoring.

Would you like to be able to get along with anyone ? how would it be if you could get your point across to anyone at any time? reduce the potential for conflict and always be thought of as someone that is easy to get along with.

  • NLP Anchoring : Anchoring Overciew0:45

Matt gives an overview of the upcoming lectures and gives a little insight into personal anchors.

  • NLP Anchoring: A History of Anchoring2:56

The history of anchoring stems from some well known research by some popular psychologists and scientists. Have you ever heard of Ivan Pavlov and Pavlovs dogs? well Ivan Pavlov is widely recognised as the father of conditoned reflex, however there was a forerunner in the research a Man by the name of Twitmyer who was researching the knee jerk, some time before Mr Pavlov and his dogs. Twitmyer discovered the conditioned response quite by accident when some of his apparatus failed in the lab. He presented his work, but was largely ignored . Leaving the stage open for Ivan Pavlov a full year later.

  • NLP Anchoring : Ivan Pavlov2:06

Pavlov is the first name that people associate with conditioned response and it was his work with dogs and the digestive system in dogs that has become popularised as the catalyst for the phenomenon. Certainly Ivan Pavlovs work was far more influential then his predecessor Twitmyer and Pavlovs work was picked up and developed by a great many people and continues to be to this day.

  • NLP Anchoring : Real World Examples of Anchoring2:33

Anchors are everywhere and in this section matt gives plenty of examples of anchors that you will undoubtedly recognise. Do you have a memory song? so you go all mushy when you look at a photograph of a first romantic holiday? that would be anchors at work!

  • NLP Anchoring :Anchoring in context5:18

Matt discusses how NLP can be used in contexts and gives examples from the real world.

Can you think of any other contexts that anchoring would be really useful? How about the world of sport? There are MANY examples of anchoring in sport. Sports people often have idiosyncrasies that are visible just before they 'take a shot' or kick a rugby ball perhaps ! that conjure just the right state of mind for successfully carrying out the task in hand

Business meetings are about to become SO much more fun! & Matt gives sneak preview to recalling a positive state.

  • NLP Anchoring: Types of STates for Anchoring3:02

What types of state do we use in anchoring? There are three types of states that we can use in anchoring and Matt discusses them all. The most effective type of anchor is Naturally occuring states and sadly we can not use them in NLP without a crystal ball, there are also constructed or 'Made up states' Matt gives his opinion on these also as states probably not worth bothering with. Instead emphasis is put on recalled states, the common states fr anchoring in NLP
