Explore the creative possibilities of night photography by mastering camera basics, manual mode, white balance, and release mode, and prepare essential equipment for your night shoots.
Choose a camera with manual mode and long exposure, a lens, a sturdy tripod, remote shutter, flashlight with red filter, a gray card for white balance, and shoot in raw.
Master night photography with manual mode and tripod, adjusting iso, aperture, exposure time; shoot raw, use automatic white balance, and capture star shapes formed by diaphragm blades with long exposures.
Explore how weather and location influence night photography, compare good and bad exposures, and learn to balance bright street lighting with shadow detail for richer city night images.
Practice night photography by using architecture as the subject, while mounting a tripod and shooting in manual mode at intervals, then check the histogram for timing.
Set night photography parameters by checking the histogram, use ISO 100 on a tripod with f/13 and raw, then adjust exposure time as light fades.
Capture landscape photos under a full moon with a cloudless sky, using 30-second exposures for daytime brightness; combine moonlight with lamps and check the lunar calendar.
Use ambient city light for portraits by balancing exposure time and aperture with the brightest lens. Then adjust iso after checking the histogram and consider tripod versus hand-held for sharpness.
Learn light painting or luminography by moving a light source during long exposure, using a tripod in a dark space with adjustable exposure times (15–30 seconds) and aperture settings.
Learn open flash for night photography: use a long exposure on a tripod with low ISO and fixed aperture, then trigger off-camera flashes multiple times to illuminate subjects.
Capture city night scenes with high dynamic range by merging three to four exposure shots in Aurora HDR or Photoshop, then export as jpeg.
Explore magical night photography through slow, peaceful shooting and waiting for the final result, yielding unique, striking images and a relaxing experience.
Night photography is one of the most interesting and satisfying types of photography, which gives us huge creative possibilities and enables us to see a world that we can’t see with the naked eye. Mastering the basics of this type of photography is relatively easy, so after a short period of time it should no longer be a challenge. However, it’s necessary to know the basics of using your camera and, most importantly, the manual mode. You also need to know how to set the white balance manually and change the release mode. All this information can be found in our course on how to use a camera or in the instruction manual of your camera. But once we’ve gone through all this purely technical stuff, we can just enjoy taking photos after dark. Nighttime gives us a great opportunity to use light in a completely different way, unavailable during the day. During this training course, you will get to know what you can expect of your equipment, you will find out the ways of taking photos of the city, architecture, flowing water, landscapes, portraits and the moon... We will also show you the secrets of working with a flash, painting with light, open flash and HDR. Some lessons end with important summaries which will help you master night photography. Trust our experience in teaching. We have prepared an original training programme, tried and tested by thousands of participants. Each key topic is discussed at the right moment. With us, you will go from the basics to the master level. You can also count on continuous development throughout the course. Remember that you will have access to the course for an unlimited period of time. We provide support as well.
