There has been so much talk about AI in recent years. AI is artificial intelligence. Is it something that your computer does automatically? Is it good or bad? What is it?
Artificial intelligence (AI) is a sub-field of computer science concerned with building smart machines capable of performing tasks that typically require human intelligence. Associated with this is the term ‘Machine Learning’. Machine Learning or ML gives machines the ability to learn by themselves and improve their own performance – hence acting intelligently.
Learn about the different types of AI.
Big data refers to large, diverse sets of information that grow at ever-increasing rates.
Big data can also be said to be characterized by high volume, high velocity, and high variety.
High volume—the amount or quantity of data
High velocity—the rate at which data is created
High variety—the different types of data
In other words, “big data” means there is more of it, it comes more quickly, and comes in more forms.
In the simplest of terms, cloud computing is about storing and accessing data and programs over the internet instead of your computer's hard drive. With this, the cost of computation, application hosting, content storage and delivery is reduced significantly. The idea of cloud computing is based on a very fundamental principal of reusability of IT capabilities'. Traditionally we have all been storing data on or running programs from the hard drive in our computers, that's called local storage and computing. But now, you can access all of this from remote servers, over the internet.
You may be reading this from a laptop or from a smartphone. But before the smartphone, we had phones, which were not so smart. We used to call them mobile phones or cell phones. But then, we connected the internet to these mobile phones, and the smartphone was born and a whole new world opened up for us. Today the smartphone is so many things for us, we not only read books and watch videos, but it is our bank, our remote control, and a host of other wonderful things. All because it is connected to the internet. Connecting things to the internet results in some amazing benefits. While we have seen these benefits with our smartphones and laptops, what if we were to extend this concept and connect every other thing on the planet to the internet? Imagine the possibilities; that...loosely, is what the internet of things is all about.
The world of work is fast changing. Soon, most organizations may expect employees to work from metaverses. What is the metaverse all about? How will different technologies be at play? How will it make life easier for employees and businesses alike? This article looks at how technology is evolving to build a new way of working and living for humans.
As organizations adopt new ways of working in the Covid era, there is a growing dependency on technology to smoothly transition into a Post-Covid era of work. Tech-based solutions towards making individuals safe and organizations secure have emerged, and continue to adapt to evolving situations across the globe. Then there are solutions that promise to optimize the use of real estate and building services. However, organizations need to tread with caution and not resort to ‘off-the-shelf’ buying when it comes to such new-age solutions. Solutions need to support organizational goals and be integrated with the organizations’ vision and respective post-Covid strategy thereof.
Most of the solutions out there are based on Artificial Intelligence or Big Data analysis or Cloud Computing or Internet of Things or a combination of some of these. What do these terms really mean? Learn the basics of these in a simple format, with examples. If you are looking to adopt new-age technology to bring about efficiencies or improve safety/security, knowing the basics will enable you to relate to the solutions better and make an informed decision. If you are generally interested in understanding the base-level tech on which businesses run today, you will secure a better appreciation of how technology can boost business in the new era.
This course guides you through the basics of Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, Cloud Computing, and the Internet of Things in the first four lectures....and much more towards the end, about how humans will soon work and live off the metaverse.
