Description

NET ZERO

Net Zero refers to the balance between the amount of greenhouse gas produced and the amount removed from the atmosphere. We reach net zero when the amount we add is no more than the amount taken away

Or Net zero refers to a state in which the greenhouse gases going into the atmosphere are balanced by removal out of the atmosphere. Let’s look at key facts:

· The warmest 20 years - last 22 years

· The four warmest were all very recent (2015 to 2018)

· Global average temperatures are now 1℃ higher than in the pre-industrial era.

· Predictions: temperatures increasing by as much as 3-5℃ by 2100.

· SME’s account for 99% of Total businesses in UK

· Even the smallest businesses produce carbon emissions

· Net Zero can’t be reached without your support

To ‘go net zero’ is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and/or to ensure that any ongoing emissions are balanced by removals.

There are several terms related to net zero which have slightly different definitions. To avoid confusion, in this course we explain confusing terminologies with regards to net zero, global warming, carbon neutral, emission, greenhouse gases etc.
