This is probably the most important portion when it comes to application and helping clients. Finding imbalances in our clients determines: how we program their workouts, how hard we can work them, how we might be able to address joint issues, how we can get them moving pain free.

If we are able to fix broken movement patterns and muscle imbalances our clients will move better, have less pain, and get better results. This will lead to an increase in client recommendations and more clients for you to train.

Muscle imbalances and the fitness assessment go hand in hand. The assessment is where we learn about the client. We have a short time to determine the health and fitness status of the person so we can safely and effectively help them reach their goals. Often time we have only the assessment to make a good impression and prove our value to the person before they chose to purchase training with you or not. This is why it is good to be confident in your abilities to spot and correct imbalances or poor movement patterns.

The OPT Model, or Optimum Performance Training Model, is a fitness training system developed by NASM. The OPT Model is based on scientific evidence and principles that progresses an individual through five training phases: stabilization endurance, strength endurance, hypertrophy, maximal strength and power. This is what other brands call periodization. Its a progression through fitness stages based on skill experience and goals.
