Stack Setup & Prep Guide
Welcome to your Stack Setup & Prep Guide!
Before you dive into building powerful automations, it’s essential to set up your development environment and connect and get API keys for the core tools and services that we will be working with throughout the masterclass.
This guide will walk you through the basic setup steps, ensuring you’re ready to follow along, experiment, and build confidently.
What You’ll Set Up
In this section, you’ll prepare the foundational stack for all your automation projects:
n8n – The heart of your workflow automation, where you’ll visually design, connect, and orchestrate tasks.
Third-Party Services – Key integrations like Flowise, AWS S3, Supabase, Bannerbear, and more, enabling advanced functionality and real-world automation scenarios.
Step 1: Setting Up n8n
Cloud or Local Install:
Choose whether to run n8n in the cloud (recommended for reliability) or locally on your machine. Follow the official n8n setup instructions for your preferred environment.
Access the Workflow Editor:
Once installed, open the n8n editor in your browser. Familiarize yourself with the interface—you’ll be using it extensively.
Use the attached Resource Guide to deploy a new instance of n8n on Railway. Guaranteed to work and this is the same Railway blueprint that we use internally at the Tesseract.
Step 2: Connecting Third-Party Services
Flowise:
Register for a Flowise account and access the dashboard. You’ll use Flowise for agent creation and advanced AI integrations.
AWS S3:
Create an AWS account if you don’t have one. Set up an S3 bucket for storing files and media generated by your automations.
Supabase:
Sign up for Supabase and create a new project. This will serve as your backend database for storing and retrieving workflow data.
Bannerbear (Optional):
If you plan to automate media creation, sign up for Bannerbear and generate your API key for image and video automation.
Step 3: Secure Your API Keys
For each third-party service, securely store your API keys and credentials. You’ll need to add these to n8n nodes when connecting your workflows to external platforms.
Step 4: Test Your Connections
Before moving on, test each integration with a simple workflow or API call. This ensures your stack is working and you’re ready for more complex builds.
Why This Prep Matters
A well-prepared stack saves you time, reduces errors, and makes advanced automation possible.
By following this guide, you’ll avoid common setup issues and set yourself up for success in every hands-on lesson.
Need Help?
If you run into any setup challenges, revisit the PDF guides, check the community Q&A, or reach out for support.
