Welcome To The Producer Genesis Course!
Kindly watch.
In this video, I explore two key approaches to defining concepts: statutory definitions and functional definitions.
I focus on functional definitions to simplify the learning process for students.
I explain what Music Production is, who a Music Producer is, and the essential principles of the craft.
I also describe the purpose of music production, providing a clear foundation to help you understand its role and importance.
In this video, I introduce the three key parts of music production:
The Theory of Music.
The Concept of Music.
The Business of Music.
In this video, I explain the Music Creation Funnel, a simple yet powerful concept that helps you understand the journey from idea to finished music.
Top Wide Part – Inspiration: Every great piece of music begins with inspiration. This is where ideas flow freely and creativity takes shape.
Top Thin Part – Talent(s): Next, raw talent enters the funnel. Whether it’s songwriting, producing, or performing, this stage channels your abilities into focused action.
Middle Thin Part – Discipline: Here, consistency and effort refine your work. Discipline turns inspiration and talent into structured, polished music.
Bottom Thin Part – Interpretation: Finally, your music takes its form, ready to be shared and interpreted by others. This is where it truly comes to life.
Each part of the funnel plays a vital role in transforming your ideas into music that resonates.
In this video, we explore the secret to The Five Stages of Music Production, a step-by-step process that takes your music from concept to completion. Here's a breakdown of each stage:
Conceptualisation: This is the crucial first step where you capture the core idea of your music. It's about clarifying your vision, whether it's for a single song or an entire career. Artists often stick with a concept for years, but being clear and flexible in this stage will save time and money down the road. If you're unsure about your concept, a session with a music consultant can provide valuable direction.
Strategy: This is where you plan out how to bring your idea to life. Your producer and production team assemble the right people, equipment, and skills necessary to execute your vision. A solid strategy also requires a great A&R (Artists and Repertoire) person to guide the project.
Physical Work: Now, it’s time to get into the studio. This stage includes creating the instrumental, writing the melody and lyrics, recording, and doing a premix. It's where the magic happens and the song starts taking shape.
Mixing & Mastering: In this stage, your music gets its final polish. The mixing engineer blends all the elements together, ensuring clarity and balance. Then, the mastering engineer adds the finishing touches to make the track sound great across all platforms. The result is your final ‘master recording’.
Revelation: Now it's time to share your creation. The master recording is presented to your team and possibly to a select group of listeners for feedback. This is your opportunity to gather reactions and make final adjustments before the official release.
In the second part of the video, we walk through a practical example, showing how these stages come to life in a real music production project.
In this video, I share my personal journey and the mistakes I made early on in my music career, particularly during my time with Chocolate City. I didn't invest enough in my craft, and the consequences were significant. This is exactly why we created this course — to help you avoid those same costly mistakes.
Setting up your home studio is a critical step in your music production journey, and it can vary depending on the purpose and scale of your work. There are different types of studios based on what you're looking to achieve:
Beat Making & Individual Recording: For creating beats and recording vocals on a smaller scale.
Recording Studio for Big Live Bands: For accommodating a full band with live recording capabilities.
Vocal Recording, Engineering, & Mixing Studio: A specialized space focused on vocals, engineering, and mixing.
Mastering Studio: A dedicated setup for the final stage of music production — mastering your tracks.
Unique Function Studios: Tailored setups for niche or specialized needs in music production.
I also provide a list of essential equipment and tools that you’ll need to build and set up your music studio, so you can start creating high-quality music right from the comfort of your own space.
