Explore hygiene and practical life for children, including toilet training, hand washing with soap and water, nail care with supervision, and safe handling and care of books.
Montessori practical life pouring teaches the child to pour from a jug into two equal containers, starting with dry, safe materials before water and refining control to avoid spills.
Practice pouring water through a funnel into a container as part of Montessori practical life, using a tray or a recycled plastic bottle funnel with shells to demonstrate control.
Practice practical life transferring from spoon to container and sponge transfers left to right, then explore early writing grips, color mixing with primary colors, and tweezers transfers.
Develop concentration and coordination by threading beads in size progressions, creating patterns, and exploring safe scissors use, folding paper, templates, and simple knife activities like fruit cutting.
Lead a whole-group cooking and painting cycle, starting with washing hands and donning aprons, emphasizing oven safety, development across fine motor and healthy eating, and exploring safe, creative art ideas.
Explore early sewing and clothes care through threading through holes and paper weaving, plus button work, then progress to knots, folding, and care tasks under close supervision.

Encourage independence in health by teaching children to clean their own teeth with a child-sized brush and toothpaste, and discuss foods that affect dental health and why we brush.
Teach children social skills through good manners, greetings, table etiquette, and outings conduct, including turning away and covering the mouth, saying excuse me and pardon, and please and thank you.
Explore care of the environment through practical life activities that help children respect and take pride in their surroundings. They sweep with chalk circles, dust, wipe tables, and garden.
There are five areas of the Montessori classroom. This course will teach you about the Practical Life area. This course follows directly on from the first Montessori course 'An Introduction to Montessori'.
This course will cover the materials, their presentations, age ranges, learning styles, the 'Cycle of Activity' and 'Controls of Error'. It will also give you some ideas of how to create the materials yourself.
