When someone doesn't understand the WHY around doing something, they will make up their own path and do their own thing for their own purpose.  Don't you want all employees at your organization going the same way with the same why and the same purpose?

In transformation point #1, we deep dive into how everyone in the world has a different view of every single thing.  Everyone looks at things through their own lens, they are not going to look at it through yours.

For the same reason people think differently, they also understand things differently as well until you explain to them your way of thinking and your why.

It is the main reason why as a leader, if an employee comes up to me and says "Angelique, Skippy is being a jerk to me today!"  I will say, "have you gone to talk to Skippy?  Why not?  If you went to talk to Skippy you could see that it probably is not about you, maybe Skippy got in a fight with family this morning or got a ticket on the way to work.  Usually, we cannot make assumptions that someone is mad at us until we ask them."

Our why and purpose is the same way.  Why not just ask someone?

In transformation point #2, we jump right into the mission.

What is the mission, why is it important, why should every organization have a mission statement?

We then dive into the difference between mission and vision.  We have a great worksheet for you to be able to what each answers, the purpose of each, and the effect it has on things (just to name a few differences).

Google's corporate mission is “to organize the world's information and make it universally accessible and useful.”

Google's corporate vision is “to provide access to the world's information in one click.” The company's nature of business is a direct manifestation of this vision statement. For example, Google's most popular product is its search engine service.

In transformation point #3, we move into our core values.  We give you some amazing examples, however, we don't want you to look up hundreds of "other organization's" core values and choose them - you have to THINK critically about yours.

I gave you an example of Starbuck's core values, but here is another one:

  1. Focus on the user and all else will follow.

  2. It’s best to do one thing really, really well.

  3. Fast is better than slow.

  4. Democracy on the web works.

  5. You don’t need to be at your desk to need an answer.

  6. You can make money without doing evil.

  7. There’s always more information out there.

  8. The need for information crosses all borders.

  9. You can be serious without a suit.

  10. Great just isn’t good enough.

We want to personally thank you for taking the time to go through this class. If you didn't learn anything new, at least we hope this was a mindset reminder and refresher for your outlook in the short time frame until it is put to the back of your mind.

If you feel it is a good tool for all of your teammates, we are even more excited!

We hope you follow us on Facebook and on our website. We have other courses to offer like this on your journey to building your solid organizational culture!
