Michael O’Neill graduated with an Economics degree from the University of Texas at Austin in 1988 and started his first job selling personal computers for a local “Whitebox” PC builder in Plano Texas. Once a month, the Microsoft sales rep would stop by the store and provide technical training on DOS and Microsoft Word. Mike recognized the potential of these amazing products and started studying them intently. When the Microsoft rep was promoted and moved to Saint Louis, she recommended Mike replace her, and Mike joined Microsoft full time in 1990 as a Reseller Marketing Rep.
This launched an 18-year career that saw Michael eventually become an Applications Engineer, Reseller Manager, Corporate Account Rep, Manager of a National Seminar Sales Team, and Director of Small Business at Microsoft. Each position Mike held focused on the training and demand generation for Microsoft products.
Mike left Microsoft in 2008 after a successful 18-year career and worked with various Microsoft training partners over the next eight years, becoming a lead trainer for Enterprise accounts that wanted live, in-person training.
In December of 2017, Mike decided he was not happy with the direction that most training companies headed into providing micro-training. Rather than focusing on the big picture and explaining how Microsoft products and technologies work together to solve problems, many training companies instead sell online subscriptions to short 1-3 minute videos on particular topics, to cater to busy employees that do not want to invest time into really learning the products.
To counter this trend, Mike decided to start his own training company that provides live events for corporations but also uses Udemy to deliver online training for individuals and corporations alike. Mike separates himself from other trainers by focusing on driving retention of knowledge in his lectures. This is a skill that he honed over many decades of practice, and it helps students to significantly remember more content from their lectures than typical trainers can deliver.
