In this 1¾ hour course we’ll cover the skills that you need for the APL-0100 Microsoft Applied Skills: Get started with Azure management tasks.

The tasks that you need to perform to get this skill are:

  • Perform basic virtual machines (VM) tasks. We'll sign up to Azure for free, and potentially get a US$200 free credit. We'll then create a Virtual Machine, and then gather information about it. We'll then stop the machine, attach a new data disk, and change the specification (or size) of this Virtual Machine.

  • Perform basic network services tasks. We'll configure the virtual network interfaces of the Virtual Machine. We'll have a look at virtual network subnets and see you can visualise how the components interact. We'll also examine Network Security Groups (NSG) and assign them to Virtual Network Interfaces and Network subnets.

  • Perform basic storage tasks. We'll then create a new storage account, find connection information and access keys, and create a Shared Access Signature (SAS). We will also create file shares and Blob storage containers and upload files to them.

  • Perform basic subscription tasks. Finally, we'll look at more general tasks. We'll look at Azure and subscription-level settings, and add locks and tags to resources.

There are several Practice Activities throughout the course, so you can be sure that you are learning.

By the end of the course, you will feel confident about being able to navigate through the Azure interface and be able to perform basic Azure management tasks. With a bit of practice, you'll be able to take the official Microsoft Applied Skill - that would look great on your CV or resume.
